Punta del Este Shore Excursion: Private Sightseeing Tour of Punta del Este

When your ship pulls into port at Punta del Este, spend half a day on a private shore excursion of the coastal resort town in southern Uruguay. Marvel at ocean views from Punta Ballena (Whale Point) before your guide drives you through sophisticated downtown neighborhoods. See the sailboats of unspoiled Playa Brava, a popular beach featuring whimsical sculptures, and stroll along Gorlero Avenue and Artigas Square to browse local shops during a bit of free time. Round-trip port transport by private vehicle is included.

One of the best parks and museums you'll ever experience. It has sculptures by artists from all over the world including Uruguay, Argentina, France and Italy! The art exhibitions usually change, but the sculptures always stay. Atchugarry is an outstanding Uruguayan artist no doubt, totally underrated by the Uruguayan culture. And since it is a non-profit organization it's free of charge

We spent several days in the area of Jose Ignacio and Punta Del Este and on the last day of our holiday our guide brought us to Fundacion Pablo Atchugarry where we had the good fortune to meet the great man himself! Although hard at work with his team in his atelier, he took time to talk to us about his work and show us around. His marble sculptures are beautiful and a joy to behold. Make sure to see his Pietà located in the little chapel. Works of many other artists are on display in the sculpture garden and there is also an art gallery on the site. The addition of a cafe would greatly add to the enjoyment of the visit as this is a place where one wishes to linger. When visiting Uruguay this is a ‘must see’ place if you have any interest in art.

We visited today and enjoyed the artist’s work and the lovely park. As always, some of the other artist’s works weren’t to our taste, but that’s art. The place is a bit disorganised, but I guess that’s art too.

Pablo Atchugarry is a Uruguayan artist of world reknown. His Foundation was established to allow young people to explore their artistic endeavors and the grounds surrounding his museum are a testament to their talents. There are 2 other buildings on the grounds. One has a movie that features how his works are created and where they have been displayed. The second one, a chapel, is breathtaking.
