La reserva forestal protectora del Bosque Oriental de Bogotá fue declarada como tal en el año 1977, recorre 5 localidades de la ciudad y es el hábitat de una gran cantidad de especies nativas y migratorias de aves, asà como de otros animales y plantas, allà confluyen la cultura campesina y la urbana en una comunidad que pertenece a la ruralidad de Bogotá. Los cerros orientales de Bogotá son emblemáticos y referente paisajÃstico y de ubicación geográfica en la ciudad, pero de ellos se conoce principalmente su costado occidental y una de las mayores atraciones turÃsticas de la ciudad, la iglesia de Monserrate, pero poco conocido es el otro lado del cerro, que alberga toda una gran diversidad de fauna y flora donde se pueden hacer recorridos de avistamiento de aves y hacia donde se dirigen los fines de semana quienes practican el ciclismo, en especÃfico al lugar conocido como el Marqués del 11. La importancia de este lugar radica en la protección del páramo, de las fuentes hÃdricas, en la creciente oferta de programas de concienciación sobre temas ambientales y el ecoturismo.
