Masterpiece of architect Rogelio Salmona, who always used local bricks for his buildings. The library is located in a beautiful park with lake and nice paths for walking. Good plan for a relaxed day.

The whole library is surrounded by a small body of water that demonstrates sincere architectural ingenuity. The architecture on the whole is seriously impressive and there is no easy way to describe it other than to recommend you to see it for yourself. The surrounding gardens and green spaces are very well kept and the interior is clean. It is a relaxing and spacious environment indoors and it boasts computers, books, local art and much more. There is a wonderful rooftop view that I highly recommend for mountain and city views.

You think you will go to a public library, but it is beyond this concept. It is a cultural center that was built outside downtown and where it is possible to see the mountains. There you will find people dancing around, moms with their babies and all urban life with a color of art and culture.

When we visited there was a lot of cleaning and general maintenance going on. The fountains were out of order which was disappointing. The main building was not open so we didn’t get to go on the roof to admire the view. The grounds are pleasant to walk round

Actually I might we can Bogotá this was one of my favorite days. I took a taxi, to this out-of-the-way library, however so worth it. It was billed 14 years ago and 2001. It is an amazing example of a community building a beautiful space for study and learning. This building will be remembered hundred years from now and further. It is a huge open space where people can go to study and read quietly. It was built down into the earth and has amazing space and design combined with beautiful ways of bringing nature into the space. I had such a fun time wondering and the food was good at the cafeteria below as well. Just wondering walking stop and read spend a couple hours it's well worth your time.

I really like Salitre as an area in general, and I'd seen some nice photos of the surroundings of the Virgilio Barco library, so I was curious to go visit. There's a precious little park with water features which goes around the library, perfect for a picnic or to take the dog for a walk (or a swim..!). A nice park to come with the kids too. The library itself is a cool building and has plenty of rooms, including one just for kids. If you go up to the top you have gorgeous views of Bogota, and fresh air to breathe (which in Bogota, is to be treasured!). There's a nice little cafe there selling snacks and lunches too. Definitely worth a visit if you want to escape from the fumes of the city, or are looking for a quiet place to read or study.

A very nice place to visit on a beautiful day. The architecturally significant building (a working library) is located a bit off the beaten path so I would only recommend it if you have extra time or if you are really interested in architecture. It is well integrated into the surrounding park and is right across the street from Parque Simon Bolivar.

To everyone visiting Bogotá, this place is an oasis! It's quiet, peaceful and beautiful! Definitely one of my favorite places to go to while in Bogotá. SERIOUSLY. It might not be the most luxurious building nor the most entertaining (in terms of technology), but it is definitely a place worth enjoying. Go outside, take a book, lay on the grass, look at the sky, enjoy the fountains and the sun! It is an awesome place to be alone and think! Or go to the roof and enjoy the view of the city, the mountains and everything.
