Monserate isn’t must see for everyone who visit Bogotá. Possible to come here by walk, cable car or small train. Round trip costed 21000 pesos. On Sunday price is 12000. From here is the best view on Bogotá also and sunset

I live in Medellin but travel extensively on road trips throughout Colombia and now find myself in Bogota so as usual I want to visit Monserrate, a place that I have been to 6 or 7 times in the past 30 years as my first visit to Bogota and the top of Monserrate was in December of 1990.

My visit yesterday was good as I was fortunate to have clear skies.

I recommend a visit as a must-see as it will be memorable as it has been with me for 30 years now.

Enjoy the church and the views.

Revered church visible from Bogota. The sanctuary dates back to 1640 when a hermitage was built on the mountaintop dedicated to Virgen Morena de Monserrate. A shrine to the Fallen Christ (El Senor Caido) was added later and many pilgrims have since attended. It has survived many earthquakes. The large 1917 one caused it to be rebuilt with the help of many pilgrims who walked the 1,500 steps each carrying at least one brick.

What a view!
You can climb up to get to the church or get the bus or cable car.
Bus and cable car are paid.
On the top you can see Bogota and it's def worth.
I was surprised by a heavy rain while I was there.
It's difficult to get taxi or uber around.

The Church here overlooks the whole city and the ascent up the last few stairs is well worth it. The architecture and design is neat and the interior is beautifully done. It is a must-see whilst you are at Monserrate.

We took the cable car up because the trail was closed due to a rockslide. I am glad we did. The views were incredible and even though it was misting, we had a good time. We took the funicular down. Bring your camera!

If you are in Bogota please make sure you have some time to visit Monserrate, the view is amazing and the church is so charming I was there on Sunday and was able to attend mass. After the church visit there are many options to eat from simple to fancy, I could not return home before having an ajacho (creamy chicken soup)

I recommend going very early, bring with you waterproof poncho and comfortable sport clothing. Run to the top and relax to discover around. A lot of places to eat. Have fun!
