Should you be in French Guiana do not miss taking a boat out to Devil’s Island, the notorious French prison made famous by Alfred Dreyfus and Papillon. The Isle Royals is the only one of three you visit. It has a good of basic pictorial history...More

Went out by catamaran, walked around the island and through the buildings, great views, good lunch, but it was very hot.

This place is fascinating from a historical standpoint but it’s also a fun trip. It’s really a group of three islands: Royal Island, Devil’s Island and St. Joseph’s Island. The trip starts with a fun catamaran ride out to Islands. It’s all open air, sun...More

Beautiful island with lush tropical greenery. Derelict penal buildings. Very hot, especially in the penal cells but a nice breeze in the path around the island. The shop was fairly useless, with only French spoken, no nice postcards - a wasted potential shopping opportunity.

Devil's Island, a rather small island outside the coast of French Guyana, is a beautiful small gem. You can choose from a number of nice walks on or around the island and see some of the animals living here : monkeys, agoetis, birds, etc. The...More

The French have made little attempt to make a visitor welcome. Signage is poor and in bad shape. Facilities are basic . This is not my first visit but it will certainly be my last.

Reviews on Trip Advisor confuse Devil's Island with the Iles du Salut (Salvation Islands Group of Islands). Most of the reviews abut Devil's Island are really about Royal Island which doesn't have its own review category. Note that you cannot visit Devil's Island, you can...More

Highlight of my trip, hopefully it remains the same, untouched history. Very hot, photographers paradise. Probably in the top five of my travels ever.

The attraction listing is titled incorrectly, I think these are reviews for all three of the Îles du Salut not just the least interesting of the three. Île Royale is particularly enjoyable, with lots of wildlife (capuchin monkeys and agoutis are the highlights) and an...More

First island we visited was Royal island. It is nice with gorgeous palm trees. The water is more limpid and has a turquoise colour. St-Joseph island has its own interests and retraces the story of prison life under terrible conditions. Nature has invaded the structures...More

There are permanent residents and an hotel on the island, so there must be a ferry. Cayenne is the most likely ferry point but we came here by cruise ship and cannot advise on other options for reaching the island. Try an... More

Hi Pat I do think travelers from the UK need Yellow Fever vaccinations but check with your health professional to be sure. You are given a certificate which you have to carry with you for proof. It is mainly for re-entering... More
