The fort of Zeelandia is the oldest spot in Suriname. The capital started growing from this point. The museum is nice and gives a great insight in history. The recent events in this fort make it even the more impressive. A must-see when in Suriname

I did a walk around by myself. Basically, no one there to visit but me. An 18th century, star shaped fort. History fans will like it.

This place is one of the most well maintained and important historic places of last 30 years of paramaribo. It is well explained and good decorated. Must see.

Very nice place to visit and understand the History of it. Too bad that you had a lot of explanations in deutsch and so few in english and nothing in French (neighbooring country).

Just walked around here, I knew before hand that there was little to do but I wanted to visit this location because of the 15 murders that took place at this location in 1982. Interesting enough based only on this.

We went there as part of a city tour. The fort is part of Suriname history and a must see. The other heritage listed building add to the scene.

We are not much of museum goers to start, but we really enjoyed taking an hour to wander through this museum. Different rooms document different eras in Surinamese history, from precolonial to more modern times. The fort is remarkably well preserved, and the day we...More

the Fort Zeelandia is a good point to overlook the river and learn about Suriname (slavery) history. As well as the more recent history, of the December Moorden (in 1982 opponents of the government, like journalists, were killed here. A small mueseum. And a little...More
