Description:

Port Moresby Nature Park (formerly the National Capital Botanical Gardens)...

Port Moresby Nature Park (formerly the National Capital Botanical Gardens) is PNG's leading recreational attraction combining botanical, zoological and cultural displays.

The park is home to over 250+ native animals including bird of paradise, tree-kangaroos, cassowaries, wallabies, snakes, crocodiles, hornbills and multiple parrot species. The grounds also offer a lush change from the hustle and bustle of Port Moresby City with the only rainforest tract within the Capital City.

Thousands of tropical plant species including palms, gingers and heliconias and native timber tree species are found within the grounds.

Facilities include cafe, souvenir shop, flower shop and arguably PNG's best children's playground.

The Nature Park can arrange transportation to/from hotels and airport to the Park and offer excellent guided tours of the Park (lasting 1.5Hrs).

A popular location on weekends for weddings and private picnic functions utilising the Nature Park's three large picnic areas.

Being an Australian, i thought we had weird animals down pat. The tree kangaroos are strange wee creatues, with these sleepy teddy bear faces but oddly, their balls hanging on the ground. Must be so uncomfortable. The birds were awesome, deadly dinosaur like cassowaries, jumped up at a boy, and other rainfirest beauties. People everywhere, which is really nice, to... More

The park has been given a facelift and it looks great. A new entrance and cafe have set the scene to make the park a premier venue for tourists and locals. If our kids were younger we would be out there every weekend because the new playground is fantastic. The park is organising or hosting a number of events with... More

A nice place but definitely unassuming. Its facilities and the fauna of the place is limited. The cost is affordable and what you pay is used to maintain the facilities

Thank for commenting on TripAdvisor. As you mentioned we are a charity so funds that we receive through visitation is used to develop the park. We have a number of exhibits and are working hard to introduce some new exhibits over the coming years. Much of what we have done in the park couple of years has been in improving... More

The Port Moresby nature conservation park is a great attraction with reasonable fees for entry. The ground are well kept and there is an interesting array of both wildlife and trees and gardens. The park promotes conservation and is a very pleasant place to visit for a few hours. There is a nice café there, a well stocked gift shop... More

Thank you for taking the time to comment on TripAdvisor and noting our well planned layout. We have been busy over the last 12 months relaying over 1km of paths to provide wider and safe pathways to enable guests to move around the park with ease. Now that the majority of the pathways have been finalised, in January 2017 we... More

Thank you for taking the time to comment on TripAdvisor. We are technically not the National Capital Botanical Gardens anymore, but now called Port Moresby Nature Park following the Provincial Governments decision to establish a charitable body to administer the site. We have been working hard over the last 4.5years to develop the site as it had become quite run... More

Before travelling into the country it is really advisable to visit these gardens. It gives a good overview of the flora and fauna on the islands. It is easier to see some of the birds here then in the forest.

Thank you for your comments and time on TripAdvisor. We really encourage people to visit the Nature Park as a great soft landing and introduction into PNG's diverse flora, fauna and culture, particularly as our collection covers a great variety of regions within PNG. As you mentioned, it can be hard to see animals in the wild in PNG. This... More

I personally don't like to visit zoos. I prefer to see wildlife in nature instead. I decided to visit Port Moresby Nature Park only for seeing Bird of Paradise, since I was failed to see the wonderful birds in nature. I was expecting the birds were all inside small cages. It was a wonderful surprise to be able to get... More

Thanks for taking the time to visit and comment on Trip Advisor. Staff have actually adopted a 'second motto' which is 'to pleasantly surprise our guests' because over the years so many people have told us this. We take it as a huge compliment. There is certainly nothing more peaceful than watching our bird of paradise flying around in the... More
