I took a hike from the the Odn Aiwo hotel to get there. It was about a 25 minute walk uphill in the heat and then downwards. The lagoon was pretty dirty with garbage all around the place. It was not worth visiting but there was not much to see in Nauru in the first place so why not? Take... More

Buada ( pronounced boarder) is an interesting place as it is a seperate district in Nauru which has its own lagoon an the district homes are located all around the lagoon with one way in to the district and the same way out . The lagoon use to have milk fish that fed the island but not anymore.

Probably the prettiest spot in Nauru, with a nice lagoon surrounded with green foliage, but the unattractive metal low barriers , trash, and algae, detract from the scene. Worth the short drive to go, but not much more. Apparently it used to be quite pristine and was once used by the Nauruans to breed fish.

While this could be a picturesque spot - it's spoilt by the smell, rubbish and pollution. It's so sad to see the state of this area despite several attempts by several groups to start addressing the situation. It has lovely green foliage - just polluted.

You can walk from Aiwo up the hill to get to the lagoon or take a 4WD. Locals swim in the lagoon but local scientists do not recommend it because of the bad quality of the water. It is a great place to sit and take in the view.
