A botanic garden should have a large number of flowers, trees, or plants, signage, and some explanations. This is just a large, average park that is less interesting than the other (free) parks in the city. There is an interesting waterfall near the entrance, but hardly worth the hike or entrance fee. The signage is extremely poor. We saw the cedar collection which also had poor signage. We saw photos of the Japanese garden which seemed kitschy compared to real Japanese gardens. I consider myself to have a very good sense of direction and could not follow the maps to the destinations I wanted. We managed to wander out of the park into some backwoods and had to navigate back using Google maps. We overheard several other people complaining that they couldn't find their way around. At the entrance, the cashier was notably slow to process people leading to a long line.
If in Tbilisi, I'd recommend skipping the Botanic garden and go to Mtatsminda Park
for a free more beautiful park with better views, or to Vera or Rike park if you want more urbanized walkable parks.

The botanical gardens are located in the heart of the Old Town next to the Narikala fortress and the Mother of Georgia monument. If you are interested, you can zip line from the Mother of Georgia monument into the botanical gardens. The normal entrance is located in the old town at the base of the fortress.
Inside there are plants from several geographic regions. The main attractions of the gardens are a Japanese garden, Queen Tamar bridge, a beautiful waterfall and an event square for holding performances and events. Some areas are dedicated to specific species like a Bamboo garden, a Cypress alley and a rose garden etc.
The garden is pretty large and its location on a hillside requires a lot of climbing up and down. So you need to be reasonably fit. Also, please note that you are walking in a path in a real forest. So you might encounter some small animas and reptiles (I saw a snake - not sure if it was venomous). Sturdy footwear is recommended both for walking and for protection against the forest creatures. As with all outdoor activities, avoid the hot weather or vis it in the cooler morning hours.
The beautiful gardens are a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding city and definitely worth a visit.

Really enjoyed a few walks and runs around the garden while we in Tbilisi. It’s a beautiful setting that feels completely outside the city even though it’s very nearby. The waterfall is stunning with lovely places to sit at the bottom and a bridge across the top giving excellent views.

Tranquil, peaceful, beautiful, well maintained and teeming with wonderful plants and animals. I could happily spend hours lost in the meadows and woods here, listening to the birds and the frogs. It is an unmissable treat for anyone who wants an oasis in the city.

Beautiful garden, but be cautious with children's tickets. Staff insisted on charging for my 6-year-old despite the sign stating otherwise. Attitude towards tourists needs improvement. Visit with caution.

I came to Tbilisi on my own and of course, took the cable car to the old fortress that's been calling on you since the minute you arrived in town. And the fourth thing you see after you come up from the cable car is the botanical garden (the three earlier sights being the panorama of Tbilisi, the fortress and an accordion player). I went down to the entrance and found myself walking, photographing, sun-soaking and relaxing for the next three hours. It was a fantastic place.
I was here in late February, so there weren't a lot of green and flowers. I can only imagine how amazing it must be during the later months of the year.
P.S. bring water and comfortable shoes.

A wonderful getaway place to relax and enjoy the natural greenery. Although it is in the city but you feel like you are out of Tbilisi city.
Walking under the trees, the colorful seens, flowers, sounds of the birds, river and wonderful waterfalls: all make it a great experience and enjoyable walk.
Kids will enjoy the Zip Line, the facilities, and walking.
Great views to take unforgettable photos of greenery, river and waterfall.
We spend about 3-4hrs and wanted to come back later to enjoy more of the different parts of the Garden (Japanese Garden - Mediterranean Garden and others).
You can plan your visit to Botanical Garden as part of your tour to Mother of Georgia and Narikala Fort using the cable care form Rike Park to go up the mountain then go walking down to Botanical Garden.
Fees are reasonable.

This was a disappointment. The Garden is big with many beautiful trees. But it is not very visitor friendly. There are little information about the trees and flowers. The few benches and picnic tables are rotten and unusable. Bring your own food and beverages because there is none to be purchased in the Garden. The entrance fee is low though, GEL 4 per person. There are many other places in Tbilisi that you should visit before bothering to visit The Botanical Garden.

Amazingly diverse and extended botanical garden. It's so big that you can wander around a whole day in it. Offers plenty of attractions including a waterfall and "Azeri public figures" whatever that may mean.

When in Tbilisi I return to Botanical Garden, again and again. Just love the place. Try visiting the waterfall early in the morning - or Japanese Garden at the sunset. I'm especially fond of great cedar trees, bamboo groves and cypress lines. The variety of plants make the air smell just so fine!

Does it make sense to start from the fortress or from the ground/main entrance? If i start from the main entrance on the road level, will there be a lot of uphill climbing?

Добрый день! А возможно ли проводить пикник в ботаническом саду? Без розжига огня, разумеется. Просто хотим отметить день рождения сына тортиком на свежем воздухе :-)

Hi everyone, what are the mode of transportation to botanical garden from Tbilisi? Do we need to go by tourist guide or we can go by ourselves?
Written February 11, 2018
Hey! You can honestly go on your own. You can take the cart up onto where Mother Georgia is and walk down then go from there. Or you can walk up. There are pathways and signs that show you where you are. But there's also a cafe and a little shop just incase you need something. Be careful of the gypsies, they'll be very pushy to take pictures of you , with your own device, with maybe a monkey or a peacock and then tell you you need to pay 'x' amount of money AFTER. If you don't pay, they will follow you and harass you. They even go so far as to pull and hang onto you.
