The area
Neighbourhood: Gangnam / Nonhyeon / Yeoksam
If you thought business and fun couldn’t mix, look no further than urban Gangnam and the nearby neighborhoods. On the surface, Gangnam comes off as a strictly business district with a plethora of high-rise office buildings jutting into the sky and the steady streams of office workers bustling about. But interlaced within are a string of shops, restaurants, bars, and other spots for entertainment. If Myeongdong is the generic meet-up and hangout spot north of the Han River, Gangnam is its answer for those on the south side. As evening comes, Gangnam comes alive with its countless neon lights attracting hordes of office workers, friends, and couples for food, drinks, perhaps a bit of singing at a noraebang, and more drinks. And the smattering of clubs around also draws plenty of folks looking to unwind and show off their moves on the dance floor. On weekends, the crowds gets bigger, the energy buzzes to a seemingly nonstop high, and Gangnam makes it clear why so many call Seoul the city that never sleeps.

I saw this place being listed as one of the highlights in Gangnam so we stopped by here after visiting Coex Starfield library. This is one of our favorite underground shopping in Seoul/Gangnam and glad we tried it. It’s pretty large but not overwhelmingly large so it’s a good place to spend your time escaping from hot & humid weather or the rain. It has a lot of phone case shops, hair accessories as well as a few nice women’s clothing shops, some inexpensive and some pricey boutique like store.

It was so good, I thought I was going crazy. I always think traveling is the best. Gangnam Pool Salon alcohol is even more fermented. It is an alcoholic beverage made by fermenting the sugar or starch contained in fruits, grains, and other raw materials through the action of mold and yeast. This liquor has a relatively low alcohol content and has the disadvantage of being easily spoiled, but has a unique aroma and soft taste coming from the raw materials. This includes beer, wine, makgeolli, herbal liquor, and cheongju.
Distilled liquor is an alcoholic beverage obtained by re-distilling fermented liquor or liquor. The alcohol concentration is relatively high, and some or most of the impurities can be removed depending on the distillation method. In particular, soju, which is widely consumed in Korea, is manufactured using alcohol from which impurities have been removed. Other brands include brandy, whiskey, vodka, rum, and tequila. Distilled alcohol is the oldest alcohol created by mankind, and whiskey from Scotland and Ireland, and fire alcohol from various parts of Northern Europe are said to have been made since around the 16th century.

Believe me, this is a shopping paradise for clothes esp for the young-at-heart. This shopping area is just steps away from the exit of the gangnam subway station. Just take the subway. It is super easy. just avoid coming around 5pm coz the trains will be packed like sardines.
If you are coming from the middle of town, say myeongdong, you will see Gangnam station is quite a distance, about 14 stops or so, but your trip will be worthwhile. The exact same blouse I got here, at Gangnam was KW 18000 but cost 35000 in Myeongdong. Don't shop at Myeongdong -shop here! Only the tourists shop at Myeongdong. Forget about being a cheapskate - why pay more when you can stretch your dollar?
I bought so many blouses at prices I couldn't imagine, I sang in my heart. The best thing is, the clothes sold here are usually made in Korea - check the tab. If u r not in the know, korean-made material like cotton is usually very durable. Here u can get T shirts for what ? KW5000! Just close one eye n buy. You can't go wrong when u see locals shopping here.
Tip 1 : go to the shops that are crowded. Their prices r usually reasonable.
Tip 2 : if u buy 3 or more shirts, ask for more discounts. If they can give u, they will. Don't be shy.
Tip 3 : recharge your batteries at the waffle cum yoghurt stall - yum ! Then hit the shops again.

There are a bazillion underground shopping arcades in Seoul and even more shopping areas, so I was surprised that the Gangnam Underground Shopping area got it's own page on Tripadvisor. If you're staying in Gangnam (for example, at the JW Marriott) or if you're already in the area it wouldn't hurt to walk through the underground shopping area. However, I wouldn't make a special trip to go there. It's pretty small compared to many other shopping areas and it's nothing to write home about -- mostly women's clothes and shoes.

Let me begin by stating this is not Gangnam Station Underground shopping. This underground shopping is known as the “express bus terminal” underground/GOTO Mall. For logistical purposes, it shares space with Shingase and the JW Marriott. I took a taxi to the express bus terminal and I was dropped off directly in front of the steps leading down to get to the underground shopping; follow the signs to underground shopping. The amount of shops here is quite overwhelming, but many do offer the same things, so it’s just about finding the best deals. Many items are advertised between 10,000 to 15,000 won. I purchased a pair of cute sandals for 5,000. I also purchased higher quality Korean fashions ranging from 29,000 won to 139,000 won; I am a shopaholic who loves a great deal, but will also pay top dollar for eclectic wear and one of a kind pieces. If you come with the intent to do a lot of damage then do bring an empty backpack or suitcase. You’ll thank me later!

Other than Edae shopping street another place to hunt for cheap and good quality clothes will be at Gangnam Underground Shopping. Basically most of the design in Korea is the same but the price of the items goes according to the area. For an example, the same blouse I saw in Hongdae is at 10000won but in Gangnam is 8000won and at Edae is 5000won. So my advice will be always go Edae first before exploring other shopping street. You can read more on my blog as I added in photos and written a more detail post.

If you're looking for some good buys at affordable prices then try this place out... There are lots of things to buy but mostly for ladies and I was really having fun just going from different shop I even bought some cheap shoes around 5000 won each and the quality looks fine that is if you're not into branded clothing.... But during the afternoon and evening the place gets too crowded I recommend you go there before noon time....

I loved this place! We spent hours here & got some really great deals.
I bought 2 shirts that if bought in the States you would get from a boutique & pay easily $50 for them but I ONLY PAID $5000 Won! Thats less than $5 each! My husband was shocked & pleasantly surprised. They are really beautiful shirts. Also they are very very well made, they do not look like shirts that would cost less than $5 at all! I also purchased a skirt & pants that are unique to Korean fashion & I know I would not find in the States & many other different items at a great price as well.
Now you will be lucky to find any seller who speaks english so be prepared for that. I do not know Korean therefor could not really try to bargain when I purchased things but it didn't matter to me because I was already getting such great deals. You will also not find very much man stuff there either. There were just a fews spots but not many so when we came upon them my hubs was happy. So if you are going with a man make sure he doesn't mind shopping all day pretty much in chik land.
There were a couple things that were not my fave of experiences.....#1 being how freaken crowded it got!!! Like crowded crowded & Im not 1 that minds crowds but dang it was hard to even stop at a spot at times because the "herd" was moving & you had no choice but to go with it! BUT I will say it was raining that day & is the main reason we chose to shop there that day & probably many others thought & did the same. #2 was the food. Again if you don't read Korean or speak it other than a few words then it might be hard for you. We ended up having hotdogs & fies....BUT man were they yummy! It was a little place in a corner that hand-cut the fries to order & put different kinds of topping on the hotdogs & it was great! I spent more on a hotdog & fries than I did on ANY of my purchase that day.
All-n-all it was a successful day & would would defiantly recommend it for someone looking for a day of shopping that isn't a mall.

Half a day should be spent here as 'girls' will go crazy shopping for bags, clothes and accessories...I ended up with 15 bags which cost only a mere KRW5000 - KRW10000 each...thats cheap considering the quality and design that I cant find in Malaysia. Socks and accessories are as cheap as KRW1,000. theres also food sold at the far end of it where you can eat spicy Teoppoki. But guys...sorry theres not much choice for shopping stuff for you here...

It's just like any other underground shopping area, except this one is in Gangnam. I'd recommend going to Dongdaemun or the other more famous areas if you really want to experience shopping.

Hii Darren,
Is this underground shopping suitable for men??
Written April 16, 2018
There are some stores which sells electronics and sneakers. Most of the clothing stores sell women's clothing, handbags etc. Not a lot sell men's clothing.
Hope it helps.

I believe there reviews here mixed for two different areas - Gangnam Express Bus Terminal Underground Shopping Centre and a place in Yeoksam dong. Seems many refer to the Express Bus Terminal one (including my own review) which is the one that's well known among locals and tourists alike.

For me, I bought a lot of clothes in Gangnam underground shopping center. Im a huge shopper for clothes everytime I travel and i didnt expect that clothes in Gangam underground can be very cheap. Also, you might also want to try OPM shopping center in Dongdaemon. I love the clothes there esp office clothes. There are also shops in ehwa and hongdae. You can try those. Enjoy shopping!

They say its not easy to find this place, how do we go there if we are coming from our hotel in myeongdong area? What do we ride? Thanks.
Written October 15, 2016
Express Bus Terminal on lines 3, 7 and 9. from Myeongdong easiest to ride line #4 to line #3 and then to destination.

Hi, how big is the shopping area?? does it extend to other station?? it would be great if someone can draw it on a map.
Written March 7, 2016
This underground shopping street is not very big. When you exit Gangnam subway station, you will see it. It does not extend to another station.

Written October 25, 2015
Lots of women's fashion starting from 10,000 won (abt $8.80USD based on the current exchange rate). Local currency only. Don't remember seeing a money changer there so bring cash. Money changers are difficult to find in Seoul other than main tourist area like Myeongdong
