Other than its impressive architecture (it used to be a military fort), the mosque within and great views of the city, the entire place is dusty, unkempt and in need of maintenance.

This is an old castle with an mosque inside, worth to visit for city view and the great pyramid. Ticket are not so expensive

It's more interesting to hear the story about what happened here than to see the building itself. There are definitely grander mosques and citadels with more history but this one obviously played a role in the history of unifying Egypt.

The Citadel is one of the main historical attractions and area in Cairo, very nice place but you really should take care and keep your eyes looking around from weird people

We booked a tour of "Islamic Cairo" through EMO tours for about $25 each.(there were only two of us). Pick up and drop off at our hotel. All entrance fees and shoe storage. Well worth the money. We spent over six hours... More

As you can tell from the others it is very easy to get around the citadel. I would do some research as there is interesting history surrounding the structure. Mike
