It was exciting to hear the history about Ramses II and how great of a pharaoh he was. Went to see his Colossus as part of a tour

The Colossus of Ramses II is by far the highlight and main attraction of Memphis. It is a huge and intricately carved statue of the great pharaoh, Ramses II that lies on its back, facing the sky and exuding the sky. The statue is in itself a masterpiece!

In my mind, it's Egypt's equivalent of the reclining Buddha at Wat Pho. You have to go see it to believe it!

If you are going to Memphis, it is worthwhile going to see the Colossus. But I wouldn't make a special trip out to see it. The size, age and sculpting is impressive. There is an outdoor museum area at the back with a few statues, but compared to what you can see elsewhere and at the Egyptian Museum, it all... More

Pity this statue is in a horizontal position. It reduces the actual size in appearance, but it at least allows to see the sculptor's skill.

The colossal statue of Ramses is impressive but because it's laying down, not standing, it does not make the kind of impression that it really should. The fact that it has been squeezed into a cramped room in a small building further diminishes it. Its a great piece of artwork, but its presentation is lacking.

The most popular attraction of Memphis is the open-air museum that hosts the colossus of Ramesses. It is a giant statue of Ramesses II laid inside a room. The carvings on the side of the statue as well as the real lifelike expression of the statue is simply amazing. Our guide explained the concept of "Cartouche" that you can find... More

Mammoth stone statute of Ramses II located in Memphis- Mit Rahina Village. Continued to be amazed at the sheer size of this statue.
