I'll start with the negative. It was too loud. Everyone in my family thought so, and it did impair our enjoyment of the show. So, if you could bring some discrete ear plugs, or perhaps wear some snug fitting ear buds. Now, the positive. The show is hypnotic and culturally enlightening. The crowd is almost all Egyptian lending an authenticity... More

This was an experience! The performance is mesmerising on itself but I was lucky enough to be with someone who explained me the deep spiritual meaning behind the colourful swirls and beautiful music and chants, which made it even better. A representation of the neverending movement of the universe, the dance of planets and stars, the music of the spheres... More

Hey, if you are in cairo and want to attend an event show of tanoura and listen to oriental music. Then i recommend you this place. It is very cheap, don't take the private tours, just ask a local friend to go with you Enjoy

The whirling Dervishes are well worth seeing. The performance is on Mondays/Wednesdays/Saturdays at 7:30 pm, but at the time of my visit, the Monday show wasn't on and the performance started later due to Ramadan. The ticket is 30 Egyptian Pounds- it was quite full so worth getting there early to get a good seat. The Wikala Al Ghuri is... More

This is an amazing show! It starts with musicians, then a single dervish, followed by 3 dervishes. It is loud and colorful. It takes place in a lovely, old caravanersi in the Khan Al Khalili. You can't reserve seats, but you can wander round and lots of people sit on the floor at the front.

A truly historical place that has amazing events that show some of the non traditional Egyptian folklore.

This Wikala is in has been beautifully restored and puts on cultural shows. You might be able to take a peek inside in the morning without actually going to one of the performances. A bit of baksheesh helps open the door.
