I visited on my first day in Egypt definitely jet-lagged, which made me vulnerable. Corralled into visiting by the driver whom I hired to take me to the pyramids and wound up buying papyrus for friends and family that I hadn't intended. I agree with...More

Here you can see the process of how the papyrus plant is turned to paper in an informative demonstration. The prices are not cheap but rest assured you're getting real, authentic papyrus from a government-regulated institution. Be sure to haggle to get a good price.

This is the place to get 100% real papyrus prints. They show you all about how it is made and how to tell if it is fake. Definitely a lot more money than the ones on the street but they are genuine.

it was interesting to see how paper was made and the artistry of the people there. I know that it is very labor intensive to make this all from hand and it was interesting.

Learned a lot seeing how papyrus was made. The staff is a lot pushy in trying to sell the art. The offered my daughter if she bought two pieces they would give her one for free. The work is very beautiful and reasonable.

The sales person at the institute is willing to negotiate. She kept offering more deals until eventually my daughter bought like two pieces and she threw in a third piece for free. Don't be shy about haggling.
