I was led to believe that because this was a "government" store, prices were set. I got TOTALLY ripped off (by at least a couple hundred dollars!) on the jewelery I bought... read more

I bought a cartouche, a couple of pendants and some custom embroidered t-shirts from the Merit Bazar. I had no issues. In fact, I was impressed that they were able to take an order for multiple t-shirts from three of us and got all of them done within an hour and done right. My sister loves the cartouche and has... This place is a rip off. I purchased a large mother of pearl plate which included international shipping for $435. Once I got the item the shipper required me to pay $70 to collect the item and said if I didn't pay it, the item would incur storage charges. Once they shipper actually handed me the package it was open... More

We visited the Merit Bazar during our three day excursion to Cairo. It is situated by the Pyramids area. We bought various items as souvenirs including a gold ring and a khartouch and we're delighted with the quality of the goods and the service which we received. We found the staff to be very professional and non - pushy and... More

I am not sure what to make of the bad reviews... We went there also on a tight schedule on a privately arranged tour. I had talked to my guide about wanting to buy a gold cartouche, double sided, with my name on the back. I've always wanted one, but I didn't want to order it online, but when IN... More

Before we left the store, we made sure that we were leaving with what we had purchased. We have had both items framed and hanging on our wall. On any trip, especially to a foreign country, we always open the package at check-out to verify it is correct and what we have paid.. Please live-and-learn!

The princess cruise lines took the bus tour to this shop after we toured the pyrimids. The tour guide rushes you into the back of the shop to the jewerly counters. They claimed that the stones we bought were alexandrite stones, not created ones, but natural. We were ripped of royally. Took them to jewerly at home in calif. he... More

I was led to believe that because this was a "government" store, prices were set. I got TOTALLY ripped off (by at least a couple hundred dollars!) on the jewelery I bought. This was not really the fault of the store, it was my fault for being so naive. The bottom line, ALWAYS bargin for what you buy in Cairo.... More

My husband and I visited Egypt in 2009 and purchased two gold puzzle rings for around $1300. Within weeks, they fell completely apart with more than 20 cracks. Thanks to our tour guide, Sherin Hamdy (www.cheregypt.com), my husband was able to return the rings in 2011 and Merit Center Bazzar assured him that they would be fixed. They fixed them... More

Beware if you visit the Merit Bazaar in Giza. On 24th October 2010 I visited their shop at 51 Pyramids Street, Giza with a tourist party from a Cruise Ship. I purchased two small items of silver jewellery – a small silver Ankh and a silver and semi precious stone pendant . I was quoted the prices in US Dollars:... More
