But the vendors will nag you to the limit so need some nerves to handle. You can always visit the same market in a mall as well. But prices will be slightly higher. If you can fight the street vendors then you get good bargains for the local, handmade stuff. Bargain should start with half of what they ask. Keep in mind that every day of the week the market is on different locations in the city. No cards accepted. Better to carry local currency. We went on a Friday when it was at Village Market. Our experience was the opposite, of course the shop owners asking you to look at their stall, but they do not pressure or harass you into buying anything. We did not experience the ‘brokers’. Some items are such a reasonable price we didn’t even haggle, and other items we agreed on half the price. It was a great experience and we would go back.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten January 13, 2024

First of all, if you get the chance, you should visit Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club, even for a drink or lunch! The views are amazing! They have trails there as well so if you're in the hiking or walking gang. A must see is the Karura Forest as well, its simply breath-giving! We got to feed the giraffes - so graceful with the long necks! And I think I'm now a tea person!Visited May 2024Travelled on businessWritten June 3, 2024

Wonderful, joyful experience on my penultimate day in Nairobi and indeed in Kenya. Got a beautiful Maasai neckpiece from a Maasai woman. It wasn’t for sale as it was around her neck but I pointed at it and said that’s what I want. And she sold it to me! I never had the negative experiences most have written about of being accosted by brokers etc. Maybe because I am not new to african markets. I got lots of souvenirs for family and friends. After the Maasai market be sure to head over to the Kenyatta International Conference Centre which is nearby and proceed to the roof of the building (it has 28 floors) for a 360 degree view of a Nairobi.

Great place to get all those gifts for family back home, just make sure your firm with them on prices. They tend to start extremely high and also check with customs in your country about what you cant bring home, wooden or leather products are the main ones. Sure is a must see though

Don't bother coming here, you'll pay as much for low-quality wastage as you would for high quality wares in a store.
Had a terrible time. Were schmoozed while shopping, before being quoted $600 for what was worth probably less than $10. We were then asked to offer 'our price' - a sneaky trick considering they know tourists have no idea and compare everything to prices back home.
As someone who knows a lot about responsible travelling, I just need to highlight that paying more than what something's worth doesn't 'feed someone', which is something I always hear. Instead, it contributes to a concentrated and inflated economy that is unstable and buys locals out of a market (like we see with coffee, chocolate and quinoa).
Left with the bare minimum of what we wanted and a very sour experience. We will never be back. Trying to scam tourists is not the way to build a sustainable business, nor economy.

Must visit as traveler. Visited the ONE near Supreme Court Building on weekend. First browse the merchandize. If you like something, check cost for comparison. After 2 hours, visit topics of your choice, negotiate reasonably, but always go for quality stuff. People are generally good, just that they are in business and want money for their merchandize. I bought bracelet made of beads, Wooden Chess, Few Masks, few colored paintings (on cloth) and earing. It is a Bargain Place, sisters are generally polite and genuine. Also visited KAZURI store at Junctional Mall on Ngong road. Pricey stuff, but quite original and very much local.

Be aware of scam organized by some of the “brokers” men, they will pretend they are guiding you around with the pretext that the deal is made afterwards. First you go around and choose the items from the vendors and then negotiate a price for all the items. They will tell that you can’t negotiate directly with the vendors. Don’t believe them. They are charging for/five times the amount that you could buy directly from the vendor so make sure you pay to each vendor directly. Like any market there’s a marge to negotiate but remember you are promoting locals with your purchase. If you really want to see where those incredible art crafts are made go to Kariocor Market.

The market is truly wonderful with so many unique pieces of art, jewelry, crafts and fabrics. But it is so high pressure I couldn’t even breathe to browse comfortably. To many people surrounded me trying to sell. Someone needs to regulate this market a bit.

Great place to interact with local artisans and product sellers. The stuff one may get here is very nice. However, one needs to be extremely skillful in bargaining. They keep moving from one place to another on different days, so check out where they are on a particular day. Visit to understand the local art, tradition, and culture

My wife and I read the reviews of the 'broker' situation at this market. We happened to be in the area and walked in the market knowing what we were getting into and wanted to test if we could fend the brokers off. We are both clearly foreigners and we knew we would be approached by the 'brokers'. We continued to tell them, waves after waves, that we were not interested in their services and to please move on. We both have strong personalities but were not able to fend them off. Sure, we could have yelled directly at them and possibly created a scene, but it simply wasn't worth it. Our advice is steer clear of this market, there is one entrance and one exit, if you get too deep you may not know how to get out, and with three men around you haggling you and grabbing your arms, it could be very intimidating. Sadly, as we exited, one man was announcing at the entrance not to engage these brokers because they are scammers and demand 3x the price, he was quickly yelled at and silenced by these 'brokers'. It's a shame, this market could be great for the local vendors. The city of Nairobi should step up and stop this 'broker' nonsense, it's not good for the local economy. We were ready, money in pocket, to purchase local goods. Instead we walked away. In our opinion, stay away until (if ever) it gets fixed

SKIP. THIS. PLACE. As a tourist you have nothing to see here. After 4 great weeks traveling in Kenya we had the worst experience here today. As soon as you come near the market the "community chairman" and his partners will jump on you like a bunch of hyenas. All they want is your cash and they will use every dirty trick in the book. Strongarming, insulting, laughing at you, cornering you and scam you with the bills. Just skip this whole place, here you only find the worst people of whole Kenya. There are way better places and small stalls all over Nairobi and Kenya where the people will treat you with respect and don't just see you as a walking bag of money.

There are markets throughout the city just about everyday at different locations around Nairobi. I went to the one located at the Village Market. I believe there is a listing online of the day and locations. I tried to the include the link but it would let me. Look up
