This was the best museum I have been to in a while. Really great history of the building and lots of facts and artefacts. Do ask for Ali to give you a tour, he is really great and full to the brim of facts!

After a morning of exploring the city and seeing the fort, a stop at the museum was the perfect place to get break from the heat and bustle of the streets. The ancient architecture is designed to keep cool. We had a guide walk us...More

Serena Beach Resort in Shanzu We have been looking around at Shanzu Beach for a room in a comfortable hotel. Watching the Flamengo hotel from the beach side, there was terrible noise from baggers and tractors, busy construction even on Sunday. The Continental Hotel gave...More

The museum was very well set-up and maintained. By buying entrance you get a guide that takes you through the different rooms and explains more about the Lamu culture: from cooking, to architecture, wood carved doors, dhows and different tribes. Also worth to climb the...More

An old mansion is now the museum and despite limited exhibits, portrays an excellent insight into the many waves of settlers, starting with the Omani's. Our guide was huge fun and delighted to have three people to show his museum to. Well worth 45 minutes...More

It's an old fashion museum, of course; you are in the old town of Lamu after all, a unesco heritage site ;-) Interesting museum if you want to understand more about this beautiful island, its history and present; make sure to go on the roof...More

Our guide was very informative and we found the trade links and maps between Lamu and the rest of the world fascinating. Took perhaps an hour...... perfect. Not too short or long. We paid 500s each not being resident and this included entry to the...More

We had a guide from the museum that was kind and very informative. We loved the machine for making the "SUPA Guetti". Too bad the machine is not in use anymore on the island to make pasta...

This is a bit off the track but worth a visit. Gives nice insight into the settlement of Lamu. You'll need a guide but like most museums in Africa a good tip is $5. Have fun!

I have visited this museum before (13 years ago) and nothing seemed to have changed. There are some interesting exhibits but overall the museum looks a bit tired. Our young trainee guide was engaging though and obviously pleased to have some people to show around!
