Winding across 3,988 miles (6,418) of China the Yangtze River is the third longest rive in the world. It begins its journey at the Qinhai-Tibet Plateau and ends at the East China Sea. The Yangtze River has a rich ecosystem, fascinating history, and is the most important river in China.

Life has always sprung up around the Yangtze River. The earliest signs of life dating back 27 thousand years. The climate on the river is often milder then its cousin the Yellow River making it more suitable for agriculture.

Overall I would recommend this particular experience but you need to go into it with your eyes open... 1. There were 7 passengers on board where English was their first language, in addition there were about 30 Germans and then around 300 Chinese. We really enjoyed this particular demographic split, but it might not be for everyone. 2. We travelled... More

We cruised aboard the Sinorama Yangtze Gold 3 from Jingzhou to Chongqing, China, with four nights aboard. I especially enjoyed sitting on our room's balcony watching the world pass by. It was so relaxing, I fell asleep - I needed the sleep. The room we had was spacious and had a balcony. We were on level five so had a... More

We took Yangtze cruise 3 day 4 nights from yichang to chongqing. Half of the passengers were sick starting from day 2 either stomachache or cold. The room was not soundproof at all. We can hear people upstairs walking. Our room was at the very front of the ship and could hear engine noise and the noise of docking. Last... More

We have just returned from the Viking Imperial China River Cruise-starting in Beijing and ending in Shanghai. The land portion was amazing. With the tour escort, Matthew Liu, the whole trip was managed exceptionally well and a wonderful experience. The hotels were 5 stars (J W Marriott, Hilton & Four Seasons Hotels) and land tours great-Forbidden City, the Great Wall,... More

Note that this review covers not only the Yangtze River portion but the full 13 day Viking land/river tour from Beijing to Shanghai. My wife and I had not traveled on Viking previously, and we came away quite impressed with them - their experience, their professionalism, their attention to detail - everything was darn near perfect. Little things (which can... More

We did the 4 day Yangtze River cruise April 2016. The vessel was very well appointed and staff were friendly and helpfull. The experience of going through the 5 locks was one that will allways be remembered. The three gorges dam was spectacular in its scale and complexity. Day excursions to local sights were very interesting and enjoyable. In all... More
