About
Get off the beaten path and eat where the locals eat on a walking tour in the oldest neighborhood of Beijing! We only eat at local, family-run eateries that you (or any other tourist) would never find on your own. Grill meat over a flame, eat in a hutong house, try authentic Beijing endangered dishes, and top up your night with a pint of the best craft beer in town. Our food tours include unlimited drinks (including beers).

We joined the Beijing evening walking food tour which brought us to several local restaurants including one that is a family-owned restaurant in a Hutong. Our guide is Tina and she is excellent in what she did.

There was a person in our group who was allergic to peanuts and Tina managed to ensure that the food was suitable for her.

We learnt so much about Beijing cuisine and had so much fun with our fellow travellers

This was actually our second Lost Plate food tour in Beijing. Last year we did the Hutong Evening Food Tour, which we loved. This year, we had been planning a trip to Sichuan province (including their Chengdu tour!), which we had to cancel due to the current travel restrictions, so we asked the Lost Plate team if they could do a tour for us here in Beijing, featuring some Sichuan cuisine. They pulled together a great custom tour for the two of us, including two fabulous restaurants from different parts of Sichuan province, and we were hosted by Ruixi - the company owner and a native of that part of the country!

In addition to finding great restaurants, she really went out of her way to ensure a safe experience for us with adequate social distancing. She checked that we wouldn't be too crowded with other restaurant guests and we were well armed with hand sanitizer. We had a great time, and look forward to experiencing their tours in other parts of the country as soon as we can travel again.

Hey Lisa! Thank you so much for joining us in Beijing again! Our founder Ruixi is very passionate about her home cuisines indeed, and she loved showing you guys the best of Sichuan cuisines here in Beijing, hoping that the flavors of the dishes can compensate for your lost holiday in Chengdu! As the Covid-19 situation gradually gets better in China, we hope you will soon be able to finally visit Chengdu and we can't wait to host you on our Chengdu food tours as well!

Joined Beijing evening hutong food tour with Tina and had a great time learning & tasting Beijing’s favourite dishes. Tina is a great guide sharing stories and experiences of her travels and getting the group talking. Highly recommend as an early activity to better understand food scene in Beijing.

Lijiang Naxi Cuisine Cooking Class, visit Elephant Mountain market, Lijiang with your guide and chef, Fancy. Meet Fancy, a culinary expert who'll help you to prepare Yunnan Little Pot Rice Noodles, Ghost Chicken Salad and Palooda drink in her kitchen school. Her husband Li runs a successful bakery next door to the kitchen so an excellent excuse to take-away delights such as the popular Szechuan pepper bagels, pain au chocolat, and red tea and cheese bagels - delicious.

Due to the Covid-19 situation, this tour was a bit different than the ones we had participated in with “Lost Plate” before (mainly with fewer stops at restaurants inside the hutongs). However, this did not make the tour any less enjoyable. Our extremely friendly and knowledgable guide Ruixi brought us to a series of amazing restaurants we would never have been able to find on our own. Along the way, she also explained a lot about Chinese food, culture and history. We enjoyed a a great variety of delicious food and drinks – and at big quantities. The main challenge was being able to pace oneself, as not to eat too much!

Hi Norkopite, thank you so much for your review! We are really happy to hear that you loved the food spots! We do provide lots of food during the tour so it is definitely a challenge to pace ourselves haha. Ruixi is indeed an expert of the Chinese food and history, isn't she?;-) You may have gained a pound or two after the tour, but I believe it's worth it! Thank you again for your support to us at this difficult time, and we hope to be able to host you again on our tours soon!

Absolutely amazing experience! Well chosen restaurants, which tourists would never even find, or if passing by, not check out. Beijing noodles are my fav, but the ones i tried on the tour were amazing! The bbq was lovely, and the meat bun was an absolute bliss. The pancakes were very nice, and the location is absolutely great. Would not say the last craft beer stop has anything to do with the beer we, Europeans, used to, but lovely atmosphere regardless. Our guide Evan knew so much about food and history, we really enjoyed the tour

The Beijing Hutong Food and Beer Tour by Tuk Tuk was incredible! Such a great introduction to the city. The food was amazing, with stops at drastically different hutong establishments. Loved the variety. Beer and water flowed freely from the first second to the last, with the final stop being at a brewery owned by a Beijing native, and not an expat, like most. Can't recommend this experience enough. It's a must-do, in my opinion. Our guide Moon was phenomenal! So friendly, helpful, and informative. She even made sure we all were able to get home safely, and walked some of us to the metro station (quickly because the last trains if the night were leaving soon). Traffic at night on the weekends is somewhat crazy, so if riding in a tuk tuk in hectic traffic might scare you, then it might be best to book the tour for a weekday night.

This ended up being one of the funnest nights of our trip to Beijing and the night ended with full stomachs and smiles around. I highly recommend the Tuk Tuk Tour for couples and those who enjoy nightlife and a little adventure. Our guide Ruiya was knowledgeable and pleasing and made everyone feel welcome. The Tuk Tuk drivers make every ride and adventure. We enjoyed our driver who was always first to the next restaurant. Each Stop on the food tour provided and different taste. There's plenty of food so pace yourself. Your guide will also keep the cold beer coming so save some room for food.

This tour is an absolute Beijing "must do". Think high adrenaline Tuk Tuk riding (we survived!), unlimited ice cold beer, an informative and caring guide with excellent English, and cap it all off with some superb taste sensations - this is the consummate 5 star food tour. Be prepared to go behind the glitz of Beijing and enter the narrow back streets to eat with the locals, just as every tourist should! Our recommendation - don't miss it. Thank you Sherry for a memorable evening!
