Our tour was customized according to our request. Vicky, who’s coordinating our tour has been very accommodating with all my queries. Worth the money considering that it’s a private tour for 3 pax already including delicious lunch and tea-tasting and jade lessons! Our driver was kind and patient and our tour guide, Angela, could communicate well in English. She made sure we are comfortable while enjoying at the same time! I will definitely recommend this tour company.

I contacted this company only a few days before flying to Beijing for a conference, since they were one of the few with half-day tours, and I had limited time for sightseeing. The office was very prompt and helpful in arranging and confirming a solo tour to the Mutianyu section of the great wall. The guide called the night before as planned to confirm the pick uptime. It was 1.5 hours from the hotel to the wall and another 1.5 back, for about 2 hours at the site. The guide was very good at providing information the land and history we were seeing, and at the wall itself. Overall I had a wondeful time and would highly recommend the company.

We booked online and got an email from Sissi. I immediately confirmed our reservation by email and they said they would call with a pick up time to our hotel. Our hotel confirmed the call and time for 6:30 a.m. We waited to an hour and a half and no one showed up. This was such a frustrating experience.

I think it is best to just post the feedback I sent the company after my trip.
Some pointers for those interested:
1. Do your research on the hotels in the city/cities you will be visiting and request specific hotels and room class otherwise you will be dumped in the cheapest room creating more profit for this company.
2. Ask for older guides > 28 years old. The young guides in my experience had attitudes, poor english and not enough knowledge of the sites.
3. Book the private tours to avoid being forced to shops and factories. This company like most get commission on your purchases to such places.
4. This company directly employs guides in Beijing only. If you are touring other cities/countries they farm out your account to local companies...you have no idea who you are dealing with. However this company will book the hotels if you specifically request them.
5. Tipping - as an American I always expect to tip for good service. Tip at the end of the trip, not daily.
Feedback to company:
Beijing Tour
I don’t think it is fair to have the tourist fill out a survey in front of the tour guide. It is uncomfortable and does not allow us to be honest since the guide is sitting right next to you while you fill in your comments.
The tour guide Cindy was too young and from the beginning displayed impatience with her duties as a tour guide. Upon arrival she was not in the proper area where passengers were leaving causing me to wait and look for her for an additional 40 minutes. She asked how much I paid for the entire trip which is inappropriate. She expressed her unhappiness with how much she was being paid by the company she works for. She also discussed tipping which Americans typically do anyway and I think it is inappropriate for her to discuss and even tell me how much I should tip her and the driver.

I had 30 hours in Beijing and since I had never been here before, I thought I would do a tour of the Great Wall and the Summer Palace. I booked with Tour-Beijing before I arrived. They were really great with emails and, true to their word, they left a message with the front desk that they would be picking me up at 7am. On the day of the tour they met me, on time, at my hotel and escorted me to a small mini-van. We picked up 6 other people and were on our way to the Great Wall. Once there, we were told we could not walk up, but had to take a cable car for an extra 80 RMB. I felt like we should have had an option, but I hadn't been on a one for awhile, so I opted in. Once on the wall we were given about an 1 1/2 hours to hike around. It was fun, albeit, very crowded and hot, so make sure you bring a lot of water! After the tour we headed to lunch, but had to stop at a jade factory first. Now, I knew these little "shopping" trips were scheduled, but it was already 2pm and we had had nothing to eat and were all starving. We did the mandatory tour and then were fed at a typical Chinese restaurant with surprisingly edible food, considering it catered to mass amounts of tourists. Next stop, the Summer Palace. This place was teeming with people and by now, it was really hot out. Our guide rushed us thru this beautiful place to the point that 2 members of the group decided to stay and make their own way back to the hotel. By the time we left the palace it was almost 5pm, so we thought we would be headed back to our hotels, but no, we had one more "shopping" trip to do. Our guide took us to a sad little pearl market where we had a boring lesson on pearls and were then told to look around. The prices were high and the whole thing depressing. As a group, we gathered outside and waited for our guide. When he didn't show up, we went to find him and saw him sitting in the market, smoking a cigarette and playing cards. We told him we wanted to return to our hotels and he said we had to stay at the market a total of 40 minutes and we had 20 minutes to wait. Well, we all got pretty heated, so he said he would call his "boss". Of course, he took about 15 minutes to do this, thus killing time and making us wait the prescribed 20 more minutes. We felt like prisoners. It was so ridiculous and annoying. If I were to do another tour, I would spend the money to hire a private driver.

Hello Kimflys, Thanks for your time writing your review. I am really sorry that you are not enjoying your US$30 Bus tour visiting Mutianyu Great Wall and Summer Palace booked through Tour Beijing. We'll contact the Bus Tour Company ( one of our contractors) that operated that particular bus tour and look into your feedback regarding the points that you have made. We pride ourselves in having a good level of customer service, our private tour guides are trained to offer their knowledge of the sites that you visit on tour, including facts, stories and local information. From your feedback I can see that you didn't received this level of service from your bus tour guide on that particular day and it has affect negatively on your travel experience of what is an interesting bus tour. Feedback is really important to us, good feedback, which we receive on a regular basis, confirms that we have walked to a right direction while negative feedback is also much appreciated, and very useful to us and we can use this to improve our management, product service and selection of our contractors. Again, I am sorry that you have not enjoyed your bus tour booked through us. You will get double compensation after we look into this matter. If you would like to contact us directly we will be happy to discuss this further with you. The Great Wall - a must see of the seven wonders of the world and truly impressive beyond all pictures and from what one has read. Definitely go as early as you can. We arrived around 9:30 am and by 11:30 you could barely move and forgot about taking any pictures that don't have peoples' heads in them. The serenity of the wall in the morning is amazing, particularly if you have a beautiful day.

The Private Tour - you get exactly what you pay for - it is just that $360 for two people is very expensive compared to what you can arrange in Beijing (for example through our hotel would have been cheaper for a nicer car). The car and tour guide were there before 8:00 am at the hotel, the car was nice, comfortable, and the driver very safe. The chairlift/toboggan roundtrip was 120Yen ($18 USD). so you are basically paying for the car, driver, and the tour guide for 5 hours.

The Tour Guide - while a very friendly lady with so-so English...during the 1.5 hour ride from Beijing she never told us anything about the Wall -- she was on her cell phone most of the time. We decided to read about the Wall on Wikipedia before we got there. On sight, her explanation was minimal and uninspiring. She was frankly overbearing and annoying when she wanted to take our pictures (I know how to use my camera, thank you). I would have preferred a more thorough and history-filled tour to explain such a masterpiece as the Great Wall. Another pet peeve -- she took us to the "State-run and approved" souvenir shop on-sight, and told us we could have engraved keychains with our names and date of our climb on them - only after purchasing them did we find out that they don't do engraving there! Grrrrrrrr

I would recommend checking other companies, or with your hotel, for better priced tours. I wish I had done better research and/or found a tour guide that came recommended.

The tour could have been much better especially for the price paid. We had a tour of the Great Wall at Mutianyu. The tour guide spoke english, she was understandable but had to really listen. It started off well, she provided us a good overview of Beijing but it then quickly went down hill. The car ride there was approximately 1.5 hours, I think she engaged us for 30 minutes.

When we got there, she elected to take the chair lift. Note to people, its not for young kids or people afraid of heights. My son fit into this category so we walked up, despite paying for the chairlift ride up and down. Also we paid for the lifts there (incremental to the tour) but didn't get a refund from her. It took us about 30 minutes to get there and because the other people in our family took the lifts we got separated.

To the tour guide's credit, she came looking for us but this was a disaster but she went all the way down (didn't see us) and didn't go back up - so , in effect our tour ended. She didn't make her way up when we were all up there.

The Great Wall is awe inspiring, it is a bucket list item.

When we finished we went to lunch, also incremental. I would have thought because she wasn't able to tell us about the Great Wall when we were there, she would provide info on the way back (I kinda understand she wasn't able to get back up), but she did not. The car ride was essentially silent.

Overall, not a good tour experience. Our other tour experience at the Forbidden City was leaps and bounds better (see my review). I would not recommend this tour operator based on my experience for the money and especially for guidance and information. Take a pass.

We just came back from the tour and have experienced the worst tour service ever. We paid 255usd per person for a two day tour in xian to expect service and a professional guided tour however we got a guide who just gave us brief descriptions and didn't even take the effort to provide further background on the history or details of banpo, hot springs and terra cotta warriors on the first day. We saw tour guides explain to their clients historical details and backgrounds who were very diligent however our guide didn't even bother taking the time to explain anything to us. We purposely booked an English tour so that we can understand more Chinese history as we don't speak mandarin and thought that a tour costing so much would deliver this however we are extremely disappointed.

Day 2 we went to huashan where we were just dropped off at north gate and sent up the cable car ourselves. Our guide did not even come with us or give us a map to explain the route or difficulty of the trail. She told us lunch would be served when we get down from the mountain around 3pm (which is already ridiculously late) however as she did not come with us nor show us the route to follow, we took 5 hours to walk to the west peak and ended up paying 400 remenbi (total for 4 ppl) to take the west cable car back down. We got back down around 5pm and at this time our guide said that the restaurant was closed and we could not be served our meal that was supposed to be included in our tour price and said she would refund us 40remenbi each. Tickets up the mountain cost 600remenbi for the 4 of us and yet the tour company charged us 155usd per person when our guide did not even accompany us nor give us information about the history of the mountain or what too watch out for which s absolutely preposterous.

We told the guide how displeased we were at the end and told her we wanted to talk to her manager howeve she refused to call them until after 30 minutes of us repeatedly explaining why we were so unhappy with the so called private guided tour we were supposed to receive.

If we are paying 255 usd per person, we expect a professional guided tour at all times and someone knowledgeable to take us around and our guide did not meet this criteria at all. We travel 4 times a year and have never felt so scammed. I strongly do not recommend you to take tours with this company unless you want to get ripped off!

Hello ES7077, Your negative feedback is much appreciated! We've taken the matter seriously. Your'll receive our reply soon after we look into the matter. Your trip advisor from Tour Beijing will contact you to discuss this further with you. Our private tour guides are trained to offer their knowledge of the sites that you visit on tour, including facts, stories and local information. The prerequisites for a professional tour guide are fourfold: 1) Good at English for easy communication, 2) Be punctual 3) Knowledgeable 4) A warm, friendly company. From your feedback I can see that you didn't received this level of service from your tour guide in Xian. Feedback is really important, and negative feedback is is very useful to us and we can use this to improve our management, product service and selection of our contractors. Thanks again for your review! Sorry again for your unhappy Xian trip! Kind Regards, Daniel Li General Manager Tour Beijing ( Beijing Champagne Travel) Nanxiaojie, Dongcheng District Beijing

I am not one to complain but after experiencing a few problems I feel other visitors should be informed to improve their visit. The service and provided by Linda in arranging an itinerary for a 3 day tour with private guide for myself and my daughter to Beijing and adding an extra nights accomodation was prompt and very professional. We were very much looking forward to our stay in Beijing. Unfortunately this did not follow through to our trip.

In comparison to the private guide we engaged with other family members in Xi'an our guide Rogi was not as knowledgable, professional or as enthusiastic. He was late on the first morning and spoke continually on his mobile phone at the Temple of Heaven and gardens all morning until I told him I felt it was rude. At one stage we were left standing for 5 minutes looking at a building not knowing what it was until he got off the phone. He replied he was busy. Fortunately he did not use his mobile as much on the following days. Our guide was also late on the third day (15 mins) and on our last day to transfer us to the train station. As I was concerned with traffic and we may miss the bullet train we caught a cab.

Despite our itinerary stating the various restaurants we were to attend for lunch we did not get taken to any of these in Beijing. I questioned why on the first day. The guide said they were not convenient. Why was it that they were stated in our itinerary?

I requested in particular to go to a more adventurous section of the wall as my daughter and I enjoy hiking. I was very pleased Linda suggested the Janshaling section which our itinerary stated we would walk for 3-4 hours. It was not crowded and whilst we very much enjoyed this day we hiked for 2 hours, there were some interesting watchtowers we did not see. We also received little information about the history of the wall and our guide was not enthusiastic about the hiking. Our guide in Xi'an gave us detailed and interesting snippets of information about the history and places we were visiting which was fabulous. We also had two locals walk with us and we were encouraged by our guide to pay for this service and did. Whilst they were lovely people they did only accompany us and as we already had a guide I felt it was his job to chaperone us and keep touts etc away from us

I also felt offended by a remark our guide made about my daughter. He was pulling some blonde hairs off his jumper and said his wife would be upset if she knew they were from a rich girl. I found this comment disrespectful as my daughter is a lovely, friendly girl.

We missed out on entering Tiananmen Square as there was a government conference on that day. We viewed it from across the road. I understand this was beyond the company's control but I feel it would have been nice to have this included in our itinerary on an alternative day when it was possible for us to visit.

Our driver was was very careful on the roads which I appreciated. Thank you.

In future I would prefer to use a private guide found on this site in preference to a larger travel organisation.
