An impressive building but it's kind of boring also. It's open only when there's no official meeting going on. If you see tourists coming out of the front door, it's probably open.

The immense edifice cogently symbolises the might of the ruling party. Completed in 1959, it was one of the ten great buildings to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Revolution. Walking amongst the vast columns in front was to experience the clear message of the relative insignificance of the individual while emphasising the importance of the collective. It was fascinating... More

This is the hall where all of the main Communist Party conferences take place - I was just interested in seeing for real what I have seen on TV. Most of the little meeting rooms are nothing special, but there are some nice paintings, statues and decorations about. The main thing is a glimpse inside the main conference auditorium. I... More

This place reminded me of those old decaying but once-grand early 20th century picture theatres that I used to go to as a child, except that it is on a vastly different scale. It's so big that the rooms are just too vast to be practical use. All the anterooms are huge, lined with huge landscape paintings or canvasses of... More

Our cruise line, Crystal Lines arranged a private tour, dinner and show in the Great Hall. Wonderful evening. I am not sure if one can just visit the Hall or if one needs to be part of a pre-booked tour or dinner. If one can visit - this is a must see, in a city of must sees. This is... More

My office had organized a gala dinner at this location. Took us some time to reach here from the JW Marriott hotel but the place was worth it! Simply stupendous both outside and inside! In the Hall, there are beautiful wall murals, paintings etc. Absolutely worth a visit!

The Great Hall of the People near Tianamen Square in Beijing is a nice to go place. The place consists of a main hall which is used for meetings of the communist party as well as several other rooms named after the various provinces and autonomous regions where foreign and other dignitaries are received and meetings and other activities are... If you are visiting Tian na men Square, then take in a visit to The Great Hall, along with The Tomb of Chairman Mao Tse Tung, plan for a full days visit, throughout the Square and surrounding area.

When you compare this building with other that share Tiananmen Square, it is easy to disregard. While it is ordinary and at very best ordinary architecture, the inside is worthy of your time.
