Second major gate

This is the second major gate in the south of the Forbidden City. Huge and impressive, this provides a great backdrop for photographs without too many tourists.

Actually It would be difficult and of course a shame to miss it since this is, in my opinion, what makes the Forbidden City so special and famous. This is probably the most interesting and even stunning part of it: this immense empty space enclosed by these splendid pieces of Traditional Chinese Architecture. If you have seen Chinese movies like... More

When visiting the Forbidden City this is one location that you may be able to get a tourist photograph without other tourists in it. Good luck.

By now we had crossed three imposing gates on entering Tienanmen Square, this just felt repetitive. Although the courtyard on both sides does give it a picturesque appeal which again is offset by the hoards of tourist.

A beautiful gate with interesting concrete work and statues. Classical Chinese architecture and very photogenic.

My recollection of visiting is that the correct name was Gate of Supreme Harmony. The first of many featured buildings as you enter the Forbidden City.

Well, like the rest of the Forbidden city complex, this gate too is spellbinding. Really grand. And makes a backdrop for some fabulous photographs. Only minus would be the great rush of people who are also doing what you are...trying to get that great selfie😂 Do read the commentary that is available on the boards. The history of the place... This is another classic example of the phenomenon which is the Forbidden City. The scale and expanse of the palaces, courtyards, statuary and details can be overwhelming but you are rewarded by a unique experience and it is a must do for all tourists and vistors to Beijing.

This is another lovely gate that you will pass through when you visit Tienanmen Square and the Forbidden City. The lions in front of the gate are huge and are a great photo opportunity. You can walk up the stairs or take the ramp up to get to it. Once at the top you have a lovely view of the... More
