The view on the river is good - if you disregard the mess around. If you don't have to, I don't suggest staying in Chongqing in general - it's a dirty city even comparing to other Chinese cities.

Historical place, very iconic. with some good restaurants, wholesale market, cruise ships. in couple years this area is going to be different. there is a huge building is under construction, which is going to block city's famous "mountainous city spirit" view

We arrived there in the late evening, so there were not too many people, but place was still living. We could get traditional Chinese street food and enjoy watching skyscrapers in the lights and ships on the river. Although it was foggy, the view was impressive. I enjoyed the evening very much.

The core of the city, the intersection of the Yangtze River with the Jialing River. Here, old and modern architectures mix in a peculiar combination of styles. Overall, during an average day, the impression is "grey": mist, perhaps pollution too, and concrete buildings. During the night, however, the colourful lights brighten the view.

the place is a peninsular shaped area where two rivers from two sides meets. the Yangtze (Changjiang) river and Jialing river meets. the area is a commercial center to buy goods in bulk, wholesale and cheap items. It is a great place to see the traditional market of Chongqing.

This area of Chongqing is something that is very difficult to describe. It is many things. A beautiful night cruise on the rivers where you can take in a georgeous skyline to walking the most populated local shopping area of the city. It takes in a few ancient city gates, street food, new bridges, Buddah Temples, old greeting points for... More

Chaotianmen is at the tip of Chongqing where the Yangtze River and Jialing River merge. It's also where the cruise boats dock for embarking and debarking. It used to have really scary steps to climb up but now since the water level raised, it's not such a climb any longer. Tall buildings now occupied this area but the docks still... More

There doesn't seem to be much left of Chaotianmen these days as the whole side if the hill leading down to the docks has been bulldozed to make way for a giant complex that looks just a little too much like Singapore's Marina Bay Sands Casino. There's no charm now, just a huge construction site.

I've done all my best shopping for children's clothes at Chaotianment markets. It's full on Chinese and I'm ususally the only westerner there. Prices are cheap, and the stalls go on and on. It's crowded and no one speaks English, but everyone has a calculator and I've never had any difficulty communicating. I usually go alone; it's not a fun... More
