I visited this museum and was pleasantly surprised. For one, it was well laid out, clean and appears fairly new. The museum is free, which adds to its appeal. Like many museums in China, there are not a lot of English translations. The main exhibit hall summaries have English translations and the items in the cases have brief English descriptions.... More

This museum/exhibition hall is part of a property, once a farm, occupied by Communist Party leaders when Chongqing was the seat of the Chinese Government. There's an interesting collection of buildings and gardens, Mao's writings and poetry and other memorable activities.

Hongyan is historically important for two reasons. First, it is where the CCP eighth route army was headquartered and thus where Zhou En Lai and some other famed CCP members resided during WWII.
