What is most striking, are the tall cloud shrouded hills and mountains, on either side of our ship. The Gorge is flanked by lush terraced hillsides known for the fabled “twelve Peaks” According to legend, the peaks are believed to be spirits of 12 fairies,...More

My son and I cruised down the Yangtze from Chongqing to Yichang. Beautiful, peaceful and relaxing. We were on the Century Diamond Cruise Ship. Great weather but lots of steps to climb on the shore excursions (do these all).

We cruised the Yangtze with Viking River cruises. The Gorges area was very beautiful and forever changing. Take the opportunity to take a sampan ride up one of the tributaries it is well worth it.

We sailed upstream through the three gorges and were just blown away by how beautiful they were. If you get the chance, do it.

The 3-Gorges Cruise on the Yangtze was one of the major highlights on my China agenda. I had been invited to Chongqing to deliver a lecture and as I was in Chongqing, it was most convenient to embark on the 3-Gorges Cruise, a major engineering...More

Wonderful river cruise through this intriguing area of Gorges. Lots of history and recent history from when the gorge dam changed the area. The cruise boat was not as European cruise standard but was comfortable enough and friendly staff. Switched to little boats on the...More

See my separate Three Gorges River Cruise review. The views are breathtaking. The method of transportation on the river to view it, is not. LOL If you are on a Tour of China that approaches the 3 Gorges and allows you a photo-op or 1...More

We boarded our Cruise ship from Chongqing. If you want a day longer cruise ( ours was 4 nights 3 days) you can board the ship from Yichang. It takes longer as you are going against the current. We enjoyed every minute of it.

We toured the three gorges area of the Yangtze River. Having been to Norway and cruised the gorges there, these were far less impressive but still interesting to see.

Last May 22, we sailed through the Yangtze River aboard Century Paragon from Chongqing to Yichang. Ongoing road and building construction towards the dock, so bit of a walk to the ship boarding, but on paved grounds. But the experience only gets better. The crew...More

Considering a 3 night cruise from Chongqing to Yichang. Travel agent noted: Here is the change for the Yangtze Cruise schedule. Since the first cruise this year in early March, all the Yangtze cruise ships do not offer the 5-stage ship lock service any more. All passengers will disembark at Yichang Maoping Pier in the morning and then have the shore excursion to Three Gorges Dam site. After the shore excursion, the cruise company will arrange the shuttle bus (about 90mins) to Yichang Three Gorges Tourist Center (city center area, close to Wanda Shopping Plaza). The Yichang guide and driver will pick up the clients from the city center, show the clients around Yichang, and transfer them to Yichang airport in the end. Questions: (1) Without the lock portion, is this still a worthwhile trip? (2) How much driving is involved in getting to the dam, dam to tourist center and tourist center to airport?

We did Yichang to Chongqing. That cruise alone is worth it. There was an excursion to the Dam itself that everyone agreed was underwhelming at best. Definitely try to spend 2-4 hours touring the 3 Gorges Museum in the... More
