Landmark Building of Chongqing

An impressive building and the landmark of Chongqing in many respects. Excellent for external photos but not much inside.

With a stunning outside this place is a must see in Chongqing. Cheap entry ticket inside was a little disappointing to see the massive theatre inside; thr architecture outside is not repeated within.

Both the interior and the exterior are a sight to behold and knowing this was built shortly after the Communist takeover of China, when China was in relative disarray, the accomplishment of building something so magnificent is all the more remarkable.

Based on other reviews, I didn't pay the 10 RMB to go inside, but the exterior of this building and the surrounding area make a lovely place to have a stroll and as a backdrop for photos. If I had come here only to see this, it would be rated much lower, but as an adjunct to the Three Gorges... More

It was a lovely surprise to visit this place on our way to our Yangtze River cruise. It was part of our itinerary in Chongqing . The buildings are typical of old Chinese architecture which is very charming and unique. Loved it a definite must when in town.

Just a big building in traditional (or retro) style. Nothing to see inside really. Just seats, and more seats.

Very nice building back to 1955. Pretty Chinese style. We didn't pay for any price, we heard that it used to charge fee but not anymore. The security gate and security man still working there. The time we got there (Roughly 8:30am), it's empty and few people walk in and take photo.

Try to go both in the morning and after 7PM two different experiences. Make sure you are wearing good walking shoes in Chongqing lots of steep hills.

The building is huge with the same architect style as tian an men in beijing. This is an assembly hall for important events. 10 yuan admission fee. If u go in u will only see the stage and seating areas thats it. I think since your at chongqing u should go in and check it out

This is a very ornate structure which has an imposing presence viewed from People's Square. Very quiet when visited. I took other contributors' advice and peeked through the front door without going inside.
