The Star Ferry is arguably an icon of the city up there with the trams. Just a tip but if you travel on the lower deck it is 50 cents cheaper than the upper (first class apparently). For my money, I prefer the lower deck, a bit noisier but fun.

Buy a token 3 hkd. Pick destination (central) brings you to the fci shopiping and business area near the ferris wheel on the island. Trust me unless you shop at place Vendome in Paris this place will amaze you

The ferry was inexpensive and was efficient and clean. The journey from Kowloon to Hong Kong Island is quite quick and you get some great views and perspective. It was fun!

I started coming to Hong Kong in 1997 and I always take the star ferry at least once during my visits. I'm not sure if it's the novelty, the views, the high authenticity factor or just the peaceful few minutes on the water...quite frankly it's all of the above, but it never fails to deliver! Simple, cheap and truly Hong... More

I always enjoy going on the Star Ferry from Kowloon to Hong Kong Island. The trip is fast and you don't have to wait long.

Make sure you take the lower deck and not the upper deck, unless it's raining and windy out there. On the lower deck, no windows, all open, you're close to the water and can see the skillful sailors at task. You can navigate from left to right, fore and aft, and see both sides of the harbor with no obstruction... More

Great fun, watching Chinese seaman nonchalantly throw lines to bring heavy colonial ferry against berth. Stunning sights just on crossing. V efficient and worth money. Buy your Oyster card which includes cost, Oyster is v cost effective and covers all transport.

Easy to use with the 2 x free tickets provided on the Big Red Bus Tour ticket, but in any event only a few pence per trip. Well organised process with some slight queuing but not such that it bothered us at all. No real concerns safety-wise - very much like Statton Island ferry in New York

I spent a week in HK and I wish I would have tried this sooner....such and easy and efficient way to get back and forth across the harbour. I initially had some trouble finding Pier 7 as the piers are large and spread out. Dragging luggage between Pier 1 and Pier 7 is not advisable....haha. I was able to pay... More
