The Museum of Coastal Defence is a must visit museum. The exhibits are meaningful and they kept some interesting exhibits like un unexploded torpedo and some old cannons. There are also English descriptors. However, engaging a guide makes a lot of difference in the experience....More

We came across this museum by chance, having botched our plans to go to the beach, though we are happy that we ended up there. The museum focuses mainly, but not exclusively, on how Hong Kong has defended itself from aggressors arriving by boat throughout...More

This old fort has been converted into a delightfully museum that gives a nice history of HK. I did not detect any "anti western" tone. It does cover the war between Britain and China that led to the transfer of HK to the Crown but...More

This is a must visit place while in Hong Kong. It isn't on the usual tourist trail but still very easy to get to via the MTR and a short walk of 5 minutes. Lots of history, artifacts and some fantastic views. All of this...More

The name of this museum does not sound so interesting but on visiting I was pleasantly surprised. Build on a hill and the views from the top are lovely. This is a large museum and inside there are several galleries outlining the military history of...More

The exhibits are quite large and are located on top of a hill which offers great views of Hong Kong. However, the exhibits do carry a strong anti-Western and anti-Japanese sentiment. The Hong Kong Maritime Museum offers a more neutral and balanced view of history...More

Visited the museum with visitors a few times, especially now that it is free, but found the lack of diversity in its governance reflected in its exhibitions. To place an image of an Indian Sepoy, to represent the Opium Wars is wrong on so many...More

Had expected a normal museum (about war subjects). Then had a very interesting journey through the history of Hong Kong an a lot of historic vaults. On the other side, it was a place of inner calmness in opposite to the extrem lively life in...More

This is a fun outing for an hour or two, and is free. There are several nice military displays and a large number of steps outside, particularly to the torpedo room and back. Learn about the Japanese invasion, as well as the Opium wars, and...More

The Museum has free entry. Consult the Museum if you require a special tour; there are guides to give casual assistance if required. The Museum is well worth the visit.
