The area
Neighbourhood: Wan Chai / Causeway Bay
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are the retail centres of Hong Kong Island. Filled with shops, malls and restaurants, both areas are bustling with people – tourists and locals alike. Causeway Bay has one of the highest rents on the planet, and is a bit more polished and modern than its Wan Chai counterpart. Beneath the surface there is more than meets the eye – find boutique stores in the above ground floors of buildings and wander into side streets to find interesting restaurants and shops tucked away from the main roads. Wan Chai especially has experienced a modern revival in recent times, with an influx of trendy restaurants and bars around the Star Street area. In addition, both areas contain many of Hong Kong’s iconic tourist attractions worthy of your visit.

...what’s not to love? I think there’s a lot more to see on the upper floors but didn’t see everything. Looking forward to returning to try the Italian restaurant too.

My son was there for a piano performance. The place is rather easily accessible. Fortunately for us, it is within walking distance for us from the hotel. The place looks like having some renovation as some levels are not open. The theatre was quite small hence it is pretty ok for the young performers as it won't so scary.

Show was took place in the McAulay Studio Theatre), a small yet intimate venue, which is easy for actor-audience interaction while in a traditional theatre setting.

There is absolutely nothing to see in this arts centre.
There are no exhibitions, just semi-empty spaces, which are of little or no interest at all.
Don't waste your time here.

The Hong Kong Arts Centre (HKAC) is the city's only independent non-profit multi-arts centre and a neat place to take in respectable exhibitions and to view artist screenings and performances both local and international in origin. It is located on Harbour Road in Wanchai just next to the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts complex.
The Centre is open from 8am to 11pm daily, you can book screening and performance attendance on site or through their website link to POPTICKET. They have a small ground floor shop and cafe as well. As with all art centres, do check their website ahead of time to learn what is happening on the day of your intended visit.
Recently, we stopped by and visited the Goethe-Institut Hong Kong, which makes use of the 14/F of the HKAC, they have a small exhibition on the subject of Jewish Life in Germany and Escape to Hong Kong, which is made up of around a dozen panels telling the tales of Jewish escapees, their ordeals in Nazi Germany, flight to Shanghai, HK, Australia and the Eastern Hemisphere to escape persecution. Detail is given to those that ended up in Hong Kong at various stages, finding a way of life within the small but notable Jewish community here during the first half of the 20th-century. It is a compelling learning opportunity and adds much to what most will not have known of the role Hong Kong played in their lives during those turbulent times.
On the weekend, the HKAC hosted the Sogetsu School of Ikebana annual exhibition (26-28 Nov 2021) in the 3-4 floor Pao Galleries as part of the Japanese Autumn Festival in HK. This was an enjoyable experience. The flower arrangements were creative, beautiful and very well displayed. We enjoyed many of the delicate, artistic and expressive arrangements, something we were very glad to have seen and something to look forward to next year.
Overall, this was a good visit and experience at HKAC, a much underrated and under-appreciated contributor to the Hong Kong arts and culture scene.

I walked into the Centre excited to see some artwork or art supplies; and or just local artists at work. If any of these exist, there needs to be a map, sign or directions. I milled around aimlessly briefly, then left puzzled as to the purpose of this building “ really”!

The Hong Kong Arts Centre is located at the waterfront, close to the exhibition and convention centre, and a number of notable hotels.
Surprised by its ability to fit in so many venues within such a small footprint, must be a world record! Cinema, theatres, exhibition halls, and regularly staging new exhibitions and performances, this is the place to meet art.
Even has a restaurant on one of its floor, this is a fine example that represents the city!

It may be due to renovations but almost nothing there. I wondered around lost for a while trying to find something to look at :-) without success.

Perhaps I expected too much, but there wasn't much here - ok it was free (surprising) but when you get there I don't think I would have paid anything for what was there. However the few exhibits were interesting and good. For a whole region arts centre I just expected more to see, not a couple of things

The Hong Kong Arts Centre (HKAC) was built in the late 1970's to foster a contemporary and performing arts scene.
It is now a place for residents to visit to enjoy the works of mainly, local artists and there seems to always be a handful of of exhibitions taking place here in the areas of sculpture, photography, video and film arts and other works and installations that fit within the contemporary art genre.
Not usually a place associated with tourism in Hong Kong, art fans might enjoy a quick wander through the HKAC when visiting the city. You can visit the HKAC website to see current and future scheduled exhibitions that might align with your travel dates.
Note there is two restaurants, Assaggio Trattoria and Pumperknickel on location as well as an art shop that is open from 12-8pm daily.
