Overview
More
The Chinatown of Jakarta began long before Indonesia existed as a nation and was originally the Chinatown of Batavia. This was the area where the Dutch required the Chinese to live. Today, the whole area is called Glodok and includes traditional houses, markets, architecture and some very beautiful Chinese temples; the Da Shi Miao and the Vihara Dharma Bhakti temples are both popular tourist attractions. The Glodok Market is one of the great commercial centers of Jakarta where you can buy everything from antiques to laptops.

Local Indonesians, loitering inside the court yard of the various Chinatown temples topless and wearing shorts. Would the same people do that inside their mosque ?? It seems to me that the Indonesian Chinese have all but abandoned their Chinatown after the two deadly racial...More

Wake up and take Grab to Jindeyaun temples. Much better early in the mornings and less chocking incense fumes. Entrance is free, and supplied of incenses and candle oil for the burner is via donation. A lot of beggars throughout the compound. The previous burnt...More

I came here only for a couple of hours and did not visit all there probably is to see, however, it is an interesting area where you find the typical food stalls, shops and temples that you may like to visit.

This is a working-person's district with busy shop and stall keepers, the temple, and the multi-level markets. See food prepared and sold in its natural state right in front of you. Dodge the Jakarta cats as they chase after scraps. Breath the incense in the...More

Unless you're looking for electronic items, this is not the place for you to visit. Also, there are no decent food places to dine in.

Came to this area to EAT good food!! But for moslem like me, got to be careful as most of the foods are non-halal. But you can still have many other halal food options. Also went to a temple (klenteng) near by, went to the...More

There are a lot of chinatowns around, but the one in Jakarta is amazing. Be prepared, the place is always jam packed with people, and with product. Wow what products, sea cucumbers, live mice, rabbits, bugs, chickens, or fully butchered, take your pick. Not feeling...More

CC ( 18.01.27 ) There was Chinese residence in Jakarta. But I a little disappointed because there was so-so in comparison with another countries China town. Just worth to visit once on passing by, I think.

This is the place to get your traditional chinese medicines; ask for Toko Obat Cine. I go my supply of Zheng Gu Shui liniment there - more expensive then in the locally made Supermarkets but it is the import from Singapore so could be better...More

I am glad that I made it to Chinatown (Glodok). Even though the place is extremely jam, this place is absolutely fascinating. It's buzzing with activities and some of the traders here still speak splattering amount of Mandarin and Hokkien. You can get lots of...More
