Since we were able to make our own batik, we found out how difficult it is to make one and learned to appreciate why they are very expensive. We now look at Batik in a different light.

The building is British-designed, about 1900, by Arthur Hubback in an Indo-Saracenic Revival style (Indian Muslim Persian). The building is gorgeous. The museum features textile production in Malaysia, along with the history associated with it, to include trade routes and countries, and locations and groups of...More

We were astonished by the extraordinary textiles on current display -- not sure of the length of this exhibit though. The permanent exhibit is also impressive, the grounds are quite nice, the two shops are just so-so. For those interested, one can take instruction in...More

Old colonialized building with white dominated color. Situated in Tanah Abang area which can be traffically challenging to come. The displays can be arranged better and more attractive, not considered as just "display". The premise is sometimes used for wedding function too.

With all the history of textiles in Indonesia, it could have been interesting but everything was run-down and poorly displayed

This museum is located in crowded area Tanah Abang. This museum has a lot of batik's collections. Beside knowing meaning of each motive, we can try to make batik by ourselves. We can find more about natural dye from trees and leaves. The entrance fee...More

This is a lovely, quite small museum housed in a charming one-story house-about eight rooms. The textiles were sumptuous, with modest but useful English-language explanations. The film playing is in Indonesian without English subtitles. They have a small museum shop behind and a good batik...More
