Kreta Ayer Square is located almost in the centre of Chinatown and just behind the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple.
A good stop within the square is the Chinatown Visitor Information centre which provides useful information on many Chinatown attractions and events.
Other attractions surrounding the square is the People’s theatre where you can view cultural music, shows and dance performances during specific times of the year and also local shops and restaurants.

Shame it isn’t as clean as the temple. The trash smells awful and there is all kinds of dirt around. The graffiti is interesting.

Kreta Ayer "Old Man" Square is a plaza at the south end of Singapore's Chinatown at the end of Trengganu Street. At one end of it is the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and the other is a modern office complex and shopping mall.
In between, the plaza offers a place to sit and relax while exploring the many attractions and adventures to be found in Chinatown, and perhaps enjoying a cool drink from one of the many surrounding stalls.
There is a large stage and at night free concerts are performed by local artists and visiting Chinese troupes. They are imensly popular and the plastic chairs set out in the early evening are soon taken.
During Chinese festivals you might be lucky enough to catch a Chinese Lion Dance performance.
Many of the artists perform in English, but even if you cannot understand Chinese, it is entertaining to sit (or stand) and watch both the on-stage performance and the reaction of the audience.
It is all part of soaking up the local culture.

We visited the temple which is in this square. There isn't really much here and it isn't overly clean. The surrounding area has shops and restaurants which is better to see. It seems to be a performance area and didn't seem to be very busy.

Other than being pretty much in the center of Chinatown, there isn’t anything special to see and do here.

The square itself is pretty poor. Not much to see. Of more interest is the nearby temple building or the Chinatown Complex if you’re looking for food.
