Loved the island. Great trip for the day, lovely beach being kept clean by the cleaners while we were there. Felt like had been away on a mini holiday. Such a relaxing place to go and just get away from the daily grind. Going to make this a monthly weekend trip.

It looked nothing like the photos on website or in some posts here from 2017-19. Lots of mosquitoes flying around you, muddy murky water, oil stained sand. Toilets are a good 10mins walk away. I saw many families who brought their dogs to run along the beach. The whole beach length is covered with seaweeds. Very unsightly.

Reached Marina South Pier MRT at 9.30am. Exit B to the pier. You can see the pier once you are out of the MRT. It's not necessary for you to purchase your ferry tickets online. You can purchase it on the spot. You don't need passport to head over to Lazarus island. It's still part of Singapore. $18 per ticket, includes the return ride back. Remember to have sufficient cash, I didn't see any cashless mode of payment neither was there an ATM.
You can purchase food and drinks at the pier. There's quite a few of shops selling similar things. Like a 1.5l bottle of 100plus cost $3 and 1.5l mineral water was $1, banana was at 50cents to 60cents per unit.
There's no shops on St John island and Lazarus island. Lazarus island is connected to St John island. Maybe a 15-20mins walk. No trash bin at Lazarus, but you can throw your trash at St John island.
Toilets with showering facilities are available at both Lazarus and St John island. There's no hooks behind the doors of the bathing cubicles, so you cannot hang your clothes behind the door.
Started my journey to St John Island at 10am. The ride is around 20-30mins to St John and by the time I walked to Lazarus island it was around 11am including the time to find a spot to settle down.

Little did I know that there is a wonderful island just 15 mins boat ride from mainland SG. Located south of Singapore, it is uninhabited and boasts the cleanest, serenest, and longest stretch of white sand beach in SG. It's a totally secluded getaway away from the busy city. On the island of Lazarus lies this long stretch of white sand horshoe shaped beach and it is indeed stunning. I found out about it during the pandemic and first thing on my mind as someone who love to go to beach and enjoy the sand, sun and sea. I've been here 3x and its a very relaxing, chilling and fun experience. To get here from the mainland take the ferry from Marina South Pier Terminal. Take the Red line to Marina South Pier and there are only 2 ferry companies serving to the island Marina South Ferry & Singapore Island Cruise. I've taken the latter 3x and so far I had some comforting experience. Tickets costs 15 SGD for a return trip and on weekdays the first ferry departs at 10 AM from Marina and 5 PM from St. John's Island. You could book your ticket online or buy directly at their office in the terminal. In between those timings there are 2 rides to Kusu Island as well. The terminal is huge and spacious and serves many kinds of ferries and boats. There are some food stalls and vending machines inside the terminal. There are no food or drinks stores in the island so you need to bring your own food. The terminal also hosts immigration and customs so there is a division between local ferry and international passengers. The boat arrives and departs on time so better not be late. There is no direct ferry to Lazarus so you will need to go to St. John's first. The ferry is air-conditioned and a modern vessel but it has no open-air upper deck seats. On my next visit would like to try the Marina South Ferry which has an open air seat. Once you arrived in St. John's you will be able to see the classic welcome site on wooden dark brown platform entrance saying Welcome to St. John's Island. As part of SG, QR check-in is mandatory as you enter. The long platform walk is quite scenic with seas on both sides. I have never explored St. John's that much but I've walk the same path thru the causeway traversing through the coastlines dotted with mangroves, people fishing and breathtaking breakwaters. I haven't been to the right side but going to Lazarus you must turn left and there is also some maps and direction pointing to Lazarus Island. The paved path follows the coastline leading to Lazarus. On the right side there are picnic benches for you to eat, drink and relax. As I walk along the coast I could see Singapore's skyscrapers on the left which is quite near yet I am already on a secluded island. The sea around here is clean and I could already see some animals like the Monitor Lizard and Macaques. There are no resorts or food stores here so everything is truly authentic raw nature. However, there are showers and toilets provided for your convenience. After passing the mangrove area, you will notice tall trees lined up ahead of where some monkeys can be found. Then you will approach the breakwater with fast moving currents and decks provided for you to enjoy the view, take some lovely photos and video and/or used the spot for fishing. Ahead on your left there is already some nice beach but not many people are there. Still on your left the high rise buildings of SG are still visible. Further walking to your right there it is the entrance to Lazarus island and as you made your way to the beach you will be in the center and behold one of the longest fine white sand beach I have seen. Very much comparable to other popular beaches yet just right here in our shores. You're free to take your picnic or relaxing spot and it stretches all the way on both sides. The same is very soft, smooth and not too hot. The sea is amazing - clear blue water breaked by patterns of waves with some boats and ships quite visible from the beach itself. I took a spot in the center and prepared my food. I usually bring 2 1.5 L of water, sandwiches and bananas. I also brought some books for good read. It is indeed really relaxing here. It feels like im outside SG in a different island yet I'm still here. I could see boats and yachts of different types are also docked near the beach Strolling along the coast of this Horshoe shape beach with the smell of the sea, gentle warm air breeze and the sound of waves and nature is my perfect beach getaway. Sea has many healing benefits due to its salt and mineral contents. So swimming is highly recommended but be careful to watch for Box jellyfish and advisable not to swim aloe. There are some algae and seaweeds at the beach but it is not rocky so very ideal for swimming. Some days especially during high tide and cloudy weather the waves could be strong but on a perfect sunny day there are little or no waves at all and the sea is even clearer. I took all in all about 3 hours from picnic, to chilling, strolling and swimming. But if you wanna spend more time and take the last boat then you can take your own time and even take a quick nap by the beach. There are no garbage bins in the beach so you must bring back your trash and outside in St. John's you would see plenty of them. Other essentials recommended include Sunblock, Swimming Goggles, and Picnic mats are recommended to bring with you. For shower please bring plastic, soap and shampoo. There are 2 toilets on both sides of Lazarus: turn right and there is another terminal. The toilets and showers are very clean and well maintained. Water pressure is also very strong. Make sure to arrive on time before your shift departs since they are always on time. As I made my way back to the mainland, I could see the deep waters with big containers ships, ferries, yachts and all kind of vessels moving and docking around SG. Looking at the sea makes my trip de-stressing, relaxing and comforting. I really had fun, relaxed and savored the moment being with Mother nature where sometimes calls us to take a break from the busy city life. Truly, a recommended beach to visit in SG - Lazarus Island.

We came here on a Tuesday, being a group of three adults and two children under 10. Took the 10am ferry from Marina Bay Pier ($18 return adult/$12 child) approx 30 min pleasant ride to St Johns Island. Upon exiting the ferry turn left once you walk down the pier, then it's a 20min walk (probably faster without kids) walk across the rock wall to Lazarus Island. There is a small beach as soon as you get to the island or you can walk a bit further and reach a much larger beach on the other side of the island. The beach is quite long and pleasant. Perhaps I've been spoilt from other beaches visited in other countries as I didn't think the beach was that good. I can understand if you want to escape the Sentosa Island crowds it's a good and easy option. It's pretty safe for weak swimmers as it slopes gradually and no current in the 'lagoon'. Take your own food/water as there is none to buy on St Johns or Lazarus. There is toilets/change room/shower facilities on St Johns but not Lazarus. There is a couple of large shelters with benches on Lazarus to put your bags etc, just beware the ants! All our bags were covered in ants after only half an hour, even the ones without food inside. Take some insect repellent for the mosquitoes and sunscreen of course. The ferry stops at Kusu Island on the way home, after spending less than an hour on Kusu I'd have preferred to spend the day there rather than Lazarus as it's much nicer, but doesn't have that remote feeling, if that's what you're after.

This is a very easy trip to make. Hop of the MRT at Marina South Pier, exit and walk diagonally forward and to the left. You'll see the little orange booking office; 1 minute walk away. Return tickets are $18, no discounts except for children. There are toilets immediately to the left of the booking office. There are more trips scheduled on Saturday and Sunday, & no crowds, so I'd suggest a trip on the weekend.
Lazarus was variously used by the British, Japanese, as a quarantine station, a Police Post, an Army barracks, a marine research centre, a rehab centre, a leperosium and a teens' adventure camp. If you have an inquiring mind, you'll find lots of vestiges of previous occupants of the island if you walk around the interior. There's a causeway connecting St John's to Lazarus, which is worth visiting. There's a very sheltered swimming area in the curve of the causeway. There are toilets up the hill on the right of the ferry pier as you disembark. Remember to bring: water bottles, sun block cream, hat, bathers, food / snack.
Be sure to budget your time so you can visit Kusu Island as well. It's the second stop on your ferry trip.

Barely met a Singaporean who knows about Saint John's and Lazarus - oh, you mean Sentosa? No. I don't.

I mean taking the $18 ferry 6.5km from Marina South Pier for 20 minutes to Saint John's Island, then taking the first left off the jetty. Follow the path across the breakwall/causeway, past the little protected bay on your left and a few minutes on you will come to the reason for your journey: a clean, white sand beach lined with coconut palms. Chope your business under one of these trees - not directly below the coconuts though - as there is little else in the way of shade.

This beach is a real revelation. No waves is a real bummer, but I guess that makes it better for all the expat families and migrant workers who frequent Lazarus. For real, you will see barely a Singaporean who isn't part of some Brompton club. Which means you won't see any inflatable unicorns either. Maybe too hot, or too sunny. My advice - wear a hat, long sleeves, sunscreen.

Crucial: don't forget your sunscreen. And a picnic. And some ice-cold brews.

Nothing else to mention about Lazarus. Go explore - it's a decent size - but don't expect anything better than that sweet little stretch of sand.

We took a trip here after reading about it online and weren’t disappointed. It’s so easy to get to, just walk out of South Pier MRT, straight ahead to the ticket booth and board the boat. Once you get to St John’s island just walk across the causeway to the beach. It’s so peaceful and it feels like you’re on another holiday, not 20 minutes from Singapore.
When we were there they were doing lots of work on St John’s and Kusu so you need to bring your own food and drink. I also wish I’d brought mosquito repellent, I left covered in bites. If you can manage it I’d also suggest bringing a beach umbrella or similar as the only shady places to sit are a little set back from the beach.

Came here some time back with the family. It's not particularly easy to get to, with the only practical option being to take the scheduled ferry to St John's island and then walk across (unless you hire a private boat). The beach here is probably the best in Singapore, but be careful of the sand flies as they can leave some nasty scars!

Really enjoyed my time here! Well worth renting a boat for a little fishing and paddle boarding around the area. There are otters, monitors, eagles and plenty of interesting other wildlife, including a turtle sanctuary nearby. Amazing this little bit of peace and quite is so close to a major CBD area. Greenwood fish market is in the marina area in Sentosa, highly recommend getting a seafood platter from there and taking out on your trip with a few bottles of wine.
