The Tekka Cenre is easy to get to via the MTRS and exit the train station and your are essentially at the Tekka Centre. This area has many small markets and vendors and a large array of small restaurants and is a fascinating place to walk through to soak up the local culture.

The Tekka Centre and market is a multi-use area comprising of shops, food centre and a wet market. It is located on the corner of Serangoon road and Bukit Timah road, which is virtually on the doorstep of the Little India MRT. Selling everything from souvenirs, spices, sweets, vegetables, traditional Indian attire and inexpensive casual clothes. There is a variety... More

Like a kid at a choclate store, this is a great place for people looking to buy Indian ware at great prices. The place is particularly great for ladies as there is a very wide range of sarees available. Little India itself is a lovely place and beautifully dressed up during the Diwali week. It is a great shopping place... More

If youre in little India and fancy saving some money on food, then head to Tekka, not the restaurants. Go to the end of Race course street and you'll see a rounded building on the corner near the train station, follow it around and it will lead you to Tekka market. I bought Spring onion, garlic pork and rice for... More

Local people might find Tekka Market boring, but for an European it's a very interesting place. The smells, the sounds... Everything is so vibrant! And I've never seen that many exotic goods before, I couldn't even name half of them!

It has long moved back to the permanent Tekka Market on Srirangoon Rd. The location on Racecourse Road was due to renovations at Tekka Market done, I believe, back in 2010 thru 2011. I recall walking there numerous times long ago.

Staying in Little India

Neighbourhood Profile
Little India
With a strong local Indian community, this pocket of Singapore can feel like another place and time. Wander past traditional barbershops while local residents in brightly coloured saris patronize retailers from decades past. Peruse streets lined with colourful shops as the aroma of curry tempts you to indulge. Listen to the Bollywood music echoing from storefronts and take in the stalls selling bright flowers, fabrics, and spices. At the 24-hour, four-level Mustafa Shopping Centre, you can shop through the night and find everything from pharmacy and grocery items to Bollywood DVDs and diamond necklaces. Singapore’s Little India offers a colourful, lively taste of the subcontinent and is well worth the visit.
