A local commercial centre for the Ang Mo Kio neighbourhood. Lots of shops and restaurants to cater to the local community and people from other parts of Singapore who may need to get what they need here.
Highly accessible via busses and MRT. A modern mall AMK Hub is just next to the town centre.

This town can be reached by metro from Orchard Station. You get off at the station named "Ang Mo Kio".
Just behind the metro station is a garden, while a tunnel connects the metro station to a shopping mall that's called AMK Hub. The basement of the shopping mall has a row of stalls selling various snacks. There is a huge hypermart there called Fairprice which sells anything from household electronic appliances to a small range of computers and smartphones, clothes, cosmetics (quite a limited range though), and all sorts of fresh meat, fish, poultry, fruits and vegetables and more.
On the first storey, there is a bus interchange wiht buses going to various parts of Singapore. And on the top floor, there is a huge food court selling all sorts of food at quite cheap prices.
Stepping out of the mall, you will see a MacDonalds and many more shops selling clothes, mobile phones and so on. If you walk on in the direction to your right, you will reach a huge electronic store called Courts. Further up is a public library. Across the library is a huge sprawling park and another MacDonald's there. The park would make for a nice walk in the late afternoon when the sun is not so hot.
Towards the left of the hub, a 20 to 30 minute walk would bring you to Ang Mo Kio Bishan Park which is actually two parks separated by a road. Both parks are huge and is a favourite place for the locals for jogging, cycling and early morning tai chi and qigong.
There are also several schools scattered around which looked quite modern. And lots of flats and coffee shops at the ground level, plces of worship including a temple, mosque and church as well.
This town would be a good place to get a feel of how the locals live, and to eat local food which are at least 20% cheaper than what you pay for the same thing on Orchard Road. You don't get the usual touristy thing but if you want to know the real Singapore, and the local way of lfie, this is a place to go and see it. Be sure to have Google Maps turned on as the town is huge and there's quite a bit of walking to do. Recommended time for exploring the area would be one morning, 4 hours.

This stall at block 347 Ang Mo Kio kopitiam serves the best Fried Hokkien Prawn Noodles! The ingredients are fresh and chef will start to fry upon ordering. Prices start from SGD$3.50 to SGD$5. I always order the SGD$5 plate for myself. Super yummy!

On Wednesday 27 May 2015, we went to Ang Mo Kio Central for a food trail with 11 students and 3 teachers. We walked all the way to Ang Mo Kio Hub which is a popular shopping centre and a lot of people went to Ang Mo Kio Hub to do their shopping, look at the latest things that are on sale, and even buy some food for their lunch.
When we reached the shopping mall, we saw a lot of people entering the mall. Our teacher released us after a short briefing and we did an interview with a resident that is living in Ang Mo Kio. I interviewed the resident alone as my friend was not feeling well and had to follow a teacher.
After interviewing, I walked around the shopping mall and catch the fresh air in the mall. I even went to Mini Toons which is located at the 2nd Level of the mall. They are selling a Kendama, which is a popular game played by Secondary School students was selling at $12.95. After that, I went to a handphone shop to see the price of the best selling Iphone 6.
Just after I went window shopping at a handphone shop, we had to go back to the meeting point as it was 11.15 am. After everybody has formed up, we went to a hawker centre where we sat down with our teacher, Mr Michael, to buy some food for us to taste. We bought 10 sticks of satay which is $6.00 and we cough out $3 each.
We enjoyed the satay and we were dismissed from the hawker centre and we could do anything that we wanted to do. Me and my friend went to a $1 shop and he bought some sweets so that we could eat on the way to school. We went back to school tired but happy.

There really isn't anything too exciting in the way of tourist attractions per se in Ang Mo Kio. The park is nice enough, with a good path for cycling. There are some ok shopping malls, and everything is reasonably neat and clean. But there's no really compelling reason to make a visit here for the purposes of tourism.

I have done few of the heritage trails with a friend over the last few weeks.... We didn't even finish this one. We got out of the MRT straight into a mall then wandered around a kitchen supply store and hawker centre. All the "attractions seemed far flung and not very .... attractive. If you have a particular interest in New towns I would recommend researching how to get from one site to another. I don't think this heritage trail is feasible, by foot, in the heat and humidity of Singapore. This is not for the visiting overseas tourist, I would suggest.
