About
At Zen Freediving we share our passion for freediving through courses, trips/expeditions, training and events and seek to build a community of freediving enthusiasts in Singapore and around the world. Our approach to teaching freediving is based on relaxation and internal awareness in a safe and fun environment, dispelling the perception of freediving as an "extreme" sport. We teach beginners to advanced students, and cater to each student's individual ability and personal objectives, whether recreational or competitive. In each course, you will delve deeply (pun intended) into the physics, psychology and physiology of freediving. We are the first freediving school in Singapore to offer freediving courses in local waters. The visibility may be limited, but there is local marine life to be discovered in our fair city state by those with the patience to explore! On a course with us, you will visit some hidden marine gems a stone's throw from the city. As freedivers, we believe in taking care of the ocean that brings us so much enjoyment and do our part by promoting sustainability and supporting marine conservation efforts. Earlier this year Chris and Michelle volunteered with Project Manta for the second year in a row, cataloging manta rays off the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. During the second expedition for Project Manta, they brought their students along to support the marine conservation cause. Come explore your zen!

I have always been curious to try free diving and stumbled across Zen's website whilst searching. The reviews mentioned the patience of the instructors and the smaller group sizes so decided to take the plunge with the Lap1 course.
I was quite nervous about the breath hold but Moe's calming instructions helped me to reach the goal quite easily.
The team is friendly, experienced and patient. Not once did I feel uncomfortable.
I would highly recommend Zen if you are keen to try or continue your free diving journey. Look forward to continue mine.

What a great introduction to freediving! The theory session was informative, and the practical with Michelle was facilitated in a really professional and encouraging way. My first attempts at breath-holds and finning went well because Michelle was very assuring and I felt safe around her to give it a go. I love how the course uses such a zen technique to support you in understanding your own body and its limits. I had so much fun, definitely deserves two thumbs up!

I have been curious about freediving for as long as I can remember but only completed my first 'real' freediving course last week with Zen Freediving. Michelle (along with Jin) were great at providing good tips, correct my still unpolished technic, and overall made me have a great time during this training. I'm already looking forward completing the Wave 1, and then go further (or deeper I guess).

After years of scuba I was curious to try freediving and decided to take the two day course at Zen freedivers. It was great! Michelle was our instructor and she did a very good job by giving everyone the tools and confidence to dive in the deep. Even when things don’t go as planned (I had some issues equalizing at the end of the day), she stayed calm and made sure I could proceed as far as I could go. Definitely a course I can recommend!

We are both scuba divers and discovered freediving some years ago. Now we relocated to Singapore and found Zen Freediving as we wanted to learn freediving properly. We signed up for the AIDA2* course with Zen and we can definetly recommend this course if you are already comfortable in and under water. Michelle spent half a day explaining the theory of freediving in a very professional and experienced manner. The groups are small and during the pool session Michelle had her eyes on everyone giving feedback and advice. On the second day we went with their own boat to the open water session where we met Chris. It was also a great experience to have him help us training our skills. Even if it needed more than a few trials, he always found different ways to explain the techniques to us so that we finally succeed.
Now we join the pool trainings frequently and no matter who out of the Zen team is guiding the trainings, it is always fun, challenging and never the same.
What we really would like to point out is that Zen especially takes care that the students understand what they are doing and that they feel confident and comfortable with what they are doing! If you want to learn this sport deeply instead of just getting a certificate then Zen is right for you!

Always wanted to learn more about free diving to be able to continue surfing big waves. The team of Zen Freediving was VERY accommodating and able to arrange a last minute course during a busy weekend for them with a big diving event in town. Michelle our coach was awesome and created a 3 hour special program to once again accommodate our needs. It was very good and incredible how we progressed so much in just one session. A lot more to learn and we will sure continue our learning journey. Thanks to Michelle and the whole team !!! STRONGLY RECOMMEND!!!

I was visiting Singapore for 2 weeks and I emailed Zen freediving if I could just join pool training. I told the lovely instructor Michelle that I have never trained before for freediving but she assured me that she can customise the training to suit all levels. And she did ! I felt very comfortable training with her and the other friendly participants, she encouraged me throughout to do better. I really enjoyed the training, she explained thoroughly about what we were doing and why. In the end, I was exhausted but felt it was well worth it ! Thank you xo

What an eye (and mind) opening experience AIDA 2 with Zen Freediving was! Our instructor Michelle was very skilled and experienced, and provided detailed instruction and useful tips. The Zen team was very encouraging and patient, and all of them took the time to help each one of us through aspects we struggled with. Most importantly, I felt safe throughout the entire experience, as I knew I was in good hands with the Zen team. Can't wait for the next round! 🙂

Met up with Instructor Michelle (who is lovely) on a Saturday afternoon, to get the basics of freediving under my belt. Great high level overview of the theory behind the sport and some really interesting practical work in the pool. Very eye opening stuff!
Great day with a good fun group of people and learnt that I love this sport and want to progress with further courses, under the instruction of Michelle and team!
Thank you!!

I signed up for the discover freediving course with my husband as we were both curious about freediving.
The Zen team was great, making the entire experience comfortable, safe and enjoyable for first timers like us.
They have top instructors including Singapore's women's champion, Michelle Ooi, so you are in very, very capable hands.
Definitely worth a try!
