- Let’s Eat7 contributionsChangi AirportWe came into Singapore For a few days in August 2023 before Travelling on to Paris, we had previously completed the Electronic Visit Pass and found the technology to get out of the Airport very lacking, my wife after waiting in a long queue was told to get in another long queue to do a manual check in. Definitely not enough scanners for the amount of people trying to exit the Airport and if they worked properly it might not be a issue. Of course on the return journey it was my turn that the so called Technology failed me and leaving tonight it was my wife’s turn again. This system needs a serious upgrade. Also we were overcharged by a very shifty taxi driver after a very long wait in the Taxi Queue. Have travelled extensively and think This Airport needs a upgrade it’s not all about Butterflies and Water features.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 20, 2023

Security and immigrations seemed grumpier and more bogged down. Seemed understaffed. - Dr. Ziauddin AhmedDhaka City, Bangladesh1,544 contributionsBeautifully decorated airportIn terms of inside beautification, greenery, ambience and comfort this airport is one of the best ones. Nonetheless, this airport is a typical asian airport in terms of the rude behavior of the staffs, security check and long queue. Very neat and clean airport with taxi, grab and other public transportation facilities. Good wifi service. Varieties of shopping facilities and restaurants are available.Visited March 2023Travelled on businessWritten February 2, 2024

Changi DFS is full of big brand shops selling luxury goods that must, I imagine, be out of reach of so many travellers. Most of them are discreet and if you want to pay 70 singore dollars for a packet of tea then this is the place for you. Most prices are hidden from view so you can window shop with abandon. If I was in the market for a designer handbag costing hundreds of dollars I'm not sure I'd want to buy it as I trundled between security and my boarding gate. The poster shop for ostentatious luxury is Louis Vuitton whose gigantic LED picture wall display towers over the surrounding shops. I think it's supposed to impress but when you've just come off a 12 hour flight it looks vulgar and tacky.
If you like hitting your credit card hard with luxury spending in an airport concourse then you will be happy here!

All the hype had me in a tale spin. 30 years of waiting to get to Singapore!! Snooze a pore, like it. There is no air condition in the free cinema. The gardens are very small. The ceiling is full of black dust. The snooze lounge only fits 12 adults. The cheapest sleep over hotel starts at $145 AD for 6 hrs. The internet site makes it look amazing but really it is just a polished turd. There is a really awesome feature, Called the

The alcohol duty free here is a total rip off. The alcohol could be purchased at a much cheaper price (with duty paid) in the city. A good example would be a 1 litre Chivas Regal 18 is priced at S$143.00. This could be bought in the city between S$110 & S$120.00. In Bangkok duty free it is sold for THB1,900 (S$78.00). All the alcohol prices at this duty free are exhorbitant.

If only we could efficiently bring travelers through SFO as they do at Changi International airport! Very clean, plenty of people to assist if you don't know how to work the airline check-in/baggage drop machines or what line to get in. Very efficient Customs and Security lines. Lot's of shopping if you didn't get your fill while in town. The Butterfly sculpture was cool along with the greenery planted by it, and this was the 1st airport I've been in that had a koi pond!
Plenty of food choices on the mezzanine and a decent number of quiet places where you can make a phone call without tons of noise around.

The size of Changi makes it a good place to stretch your legs if you have nine hours to kill between flights. Enough shops to satisfy a shopaholic, not even including the Jewel mega mall which you have to clear customs to access. However, all transit hotel rooms were booked out when we were there - it seems you have to book days in advance if you want to have a chance of getting one. Not many places to try to sleep if you didn't get one.

1) Did not expect to see the airport in such poor condition, the carpets are in desperate need of a decent vaccum. Sitting close to the Butterfly sanctuary we noticed how dusty the carpets were and as we moved around we noted that this seemed to be the norm. The walkways too could do with a good wash. The ones outside Burger King, 7 Eleven, in front of the various food shops generally upstairs were marked and dirty.
2) Felt ripped off! Water and cooldrinks sold freely in the duty free area. Yet these were removed from us at the departure gate. No warning to this effect on the boarding pass or any notices around the boarding gate. We've not experienced this elsewhere in the world - Istanbul and Heathrow earlier this year, Vienna and Prague just prior to lockdown, and a number of other international airports in the past. The airlines only provide little glasses of water and yet they suggest that you remain hydrated. We really felt ripped off spending a small fortune on water and having it removed. Strangely enough others in our group got into the departure lounge with water in their hand luggage which made an even bigger farce of this process.

Horrible immigration queue wait, not enough taxis, and when you finally get a taxi, they over charge you. Food also not that good.
Trains are also confusing, and they keep making your top up although there is money on the reusable cards! Very bad tourist experience.

This is normally a nice airport for a layover. Sadly with the pandemic, things have changed. Very quiet with limited eateries open. The same applies to shopping. I miss the buzz. Very few people around and lifeless. On the plus, well signposted, easy to navigate and staff are friendly. There are loads of seats which are comfortable too and charging sockets. Generally clean but carpets do need a hoover in some areas. If you have a long transit like I did, there is a transit hotel or depending on where you have come from and vaccination status, I was able to freely walk around. You can commute between terminals (1 and 3 are the most active). If you have come from a high risk country, then you will go to a 'holding area' and cannot leave that area till you depart. Rules change all the time with the pandemic so check. Toilets were surprisingly clean or I was lucky! Things that are opened, close early or only open when there are flights. Choice is also limited.

Arrived at Changi Airport for a 5 night stay in Singapore. Before we cleared security, we where asked to complete a form on line. The system went down and we were held up for over an hour. Must have been asked 10 times if we had completed the form, giving the same answer each time which they knew - your system is not working. We were then told to join a huge queue to clear security which moved that slow it was dreadful. Over an hour later, we missed our airport transfer to the hotel and had to pay an additional $50. Absolutely terrible experience. Not sure how it is ranked one of the best airports in the World!

Hi, Travelling from Perth to Phuket,Singapore Airlines. 1 hour 40min in transit at Changi. If l buy duty-free in Perth, will it be taken off me at the transit boarding gate flying to Phuket.
Or do you think enough time to buy duty-free at Changi.

Does Changi International Airport Terminal 4 have an arrival "waiting Area?"
I am bound to arrive past midnight and ive read that most public transports end at 12midnight and starts before 6am.
also, i wouldnt want to waste paying a day on a hotel for less than 12hrs.(i have already booked a hotel but check in time is 2pm. id rather explore the chinatown area before checking in my hotel in chinatown)
Any tips on what to do to waste time? Thanks
Written April 2, 2023
also, it is possible to exit to a different terminal? like from terminal 4 arrival then transferring to terminals 1,2,3 to shop/eat/stroll before exiting the airport?

We are flying from London to Perth with a 3 hour lay over, if we buy anything either in LoOndon or the airport ,if they are over 100mls will they be taken off us at security by the departure gate
Written February 15, 2023
All water bottles are taken no matter what at the gate, place anything above 100ml in your checked in luggage (not carry on).

I'm taking Philippine that arrives at Changi 11:30PM. My connecting flight to Melbourne by Scoot depart at 1:45 AM, about 2 hrs layover. I guess I must go to Scoot counter to check-in and get my boarding pass if airline needs to verify my documents. Would this 2 hr layover enough?
Thanks in advance

What’s the operating hours for duty free inside departures hall
Written July 29, 2020
I am confused about accessing the features of Jewel. We ( a young senior couple ) are mostly interested in visiting the various botanical areas of the airport ( such as the waterfall, forest valley, gardens, hedge maze etc), not the shopping venues. Will we be technically leaving the airport to visit those areas? If we are catching a flight do we pass security and immigration after Jewel? We are not sure if we should do this visit when we arrive at the airport from our overseas flight or when we depart from it heading home ( connecting from Bali). We are even considering staying at one of the airport hotels to facilitate the visit and to have enough time. How many hours should we allow? Thank you.

Hi, I have a 13 hour layover at Changi. Flying Business class. Flight lands at 7 am. My departure time for the evening flight is 8 pm. Can I use the Silverkris lounge when we land for an hour or so, get breakfast, freshen up, head to the city and then use the lounge again later in the afternoon/evening before my flight?
Thanks
Written January 9, 2020
Your points were answered above. But you may not be aware that there is a free bus tour around Singapore for a traveler in transit. Obviously for immigration reasons you can not disembark, but it gives you a better understanding of the city and its landmarks.
'The Jewel' waterfall is certainly worth a visit on all 5 floors, beneath is amazing too as the outlet is transparent.
I'd also recommend lunch at Violet Oons, the best Chinese in town. Welcome to Singapore. :)

A transit traveller, doing stopover, to move from T1 to T2 or to Jewel, is free or it needs cheking again?
Written January 4, 2020
Hi, To move between T1 and T2, you can remain the transit area. However, as Jewel is located in the public, you will need to clear immigration.
Hope this helps.
