Not your average Cathedral but I guess it is still a place of worship. I think the Priest must have slept in because there were a lot of tours waiting to go in and everything was locked up tight. Even the overnight guests sleeping outside were still at rest.

Unusual building in the town centre, the cathedral looks locked for a long time and abandoned. Quite nice bell tower, coloured. The front is ridiculously covered with metal panels?. It definitely worth a visit to discover more about it.

The most interesting thing about the church is that is is made sole of wood from the region. Recommend to see but only if you wander onto it.

the town is not so impresive... but if you get there visit the fish market, this temple is made by a specific wook that you can find at the area...

While not one of the more beautiful cathedrals we have ever seen, it is certainly one of the most unique. Originally built in 1856 as a church, it was later used as a theater and army barrack! In 1896 it was reconsecrated as a church. When the then Pope created the Diocese of Puerto Montt in 1939 it was named as a cathedral in honor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
The architectural style and Doric columns are believed to have been inspired by the Parthenon. The cathedral is built of alerce wood, a type of cypress tree native to the Andes mountains. The copper cupola and use of rectangular pieces of stained glass add to the uniqueness. The interior is interesting in its simplicity, rows of Doric columns on either side of the nave, lovely murals, a neo-Gothic chapel. I would not go out of my way to see the church but it is worth a visit if in the area. Check the hours.... I think it is only open in the morning or early afternoon.

Since I am from Europe, I am expecting larger buildings when they are called cathedrals. So do not be too disappointed if your visit ends after a few minutes.

It is located in the Plaza de Armas and is the seat of the archbishop of the Archdiocese of Puerto Montt. It was initially built as a church in 1892 but was elevated to Cathedral status in 1939. The building had undergone a number of repairs over the years as a result of damage caused by earthquakes. The front of the building is highlighted by four Doric columns that resemble the Parthenon . Its main structure is composed of native woods that form a planar system of beams that rest on 12 columns. Definitely not as ornate or constructed in the grand design of other Cathedrals visited during our tours.

This is an old and interesting church. All wooden, the inside is calm and a respite from the cold and rainy day. A must to look in, one always gauns a sense of culture in historic places.

This is a big church made of wood, approximately from 1860. If you´re in the zone, take some time to appreciate it. With beautiful paintings and sculptures. Located in city center in front of the main plaza and the ocean.

This Catholic Church is located in the center of Puerto Montt and is somewhat significant because of its architecture. It is made if wood and that is unusual. The other material is glass. wood withstands earthquakes because it moves. The only downside is fire. In addition to Mass, concerts are held in the church.
