The park protects the body of Todos los Santos Lake and a large part of its catchment. The outlet of the lake at the Petrohué locality gives rise to the Petrohué River. A short distance downstream, still within the limits of the Park, the Petrohué river flows through the Petrohue Waterfalls.
We did a quite enjoyable cruise on Todos los Santos Lake, followed by a tour of the waterfalls. Petrohué Waterfalls is a chute-type waterfall in the upper reach of Petrohué River in Chile, a short distance downstream of the source of this river in Todos los Santos Lake. However, from the ground they seem more like rapids than waterfalls. That said, this is a beautiful place to visit on a nice, sunny day. There are a few other trails to walk but there was not all that much to see on the parts that I walked.

The park is just as pictured here. Great views, waterfalls and forests. We took a local bus from Puerto Vargas....highly recommend that as an easy way to get around and to travel with locals. We don't speak Spanish and we were able to do fine. We wished we would have studied up on trail descriptions more thoroughly before we went because the signage wasn't intuitive enough for us, and we ended up getting a smaller than we wanted. Still, goregeous place that makes a great addition to a trip

The beauty of this place is difficult to describe. I recommend going very early in the morning since around midday there are many people and the place becomes less quiet. Please do not feed or disturb the animals!

We did a very enjoyable one way 5-6 hour hour hike through the park from Camino La Picada to Petrohue. Most people would do the round trip from Petrohue to the designated view spot or higher to ridge. Either are on challenging terrain but through diverse landscape. Views throughout are stunning. Osorno Volcano from many angles and up close, taking in the lake and ruggedness of the national park as you reach higher view spots, range of smooth paths to volcanic river beds. A truly beautiful area. The downside is relatively poor trail markings in many parts. We were with a guide and be of at least moderate fitness in solid walking shoes. It would not be an extended walk I would consider safe to do if not familiar with the area. Need to carry (in and out) food and liquid needs.

It was created in 1926, being the oldest national park in Chile. It is located in the Andes Mountains. It is bordering Argentina. Within this protected site is the Todos los Santos Lake and the Petrohué River with its incredible waterfalls. Surrounded by three volcanoes: Osorno, Puntiagudo and Cerro Tronador. We were able to see it on an excursion where we toured the area and it has landscapes of great beauty.

Parque National Vicente Perez Rosales clearly is a world treasure. With crystal clear rapids and sparkling lakes, the area is a must see for another in the Lake region of Chile. Driving around the various lakes to get to the park can take some time, but definitely enjoy the scenery along the way. The architecture blends beautifully with the natural environment, and you'll feel like you're in Europe most of the time. The volcano dominates the landscape and if you have clouds...have patience! Clouds generally burn off in the afternoon.

Travelling up Volcan Osorno was wonderful on this midsummer day. From the top car park we took the chairlift up to the sideline. It was well worth the 18000 pesos each. Of course, while we were up there we walked across to the Red Crater and messed around in the snow at the top. We spent about 3 hours on the mountain all up. Highly recommended. We continued around the lake to the Saltos de Petrohue which have their own review.

One of my most beautiful hikes in Chile.
It is possible to follow Paso Desolacion for several hours of climbing to a certain point of the volcano, but you can also simply follow the start of Paso Desolacion to access a superb viewpoint without tiring yourself too much. Then, you can go down to Todos los Santos Lake, take the opportunity to swim in its turquoise waters, and return to the entrance along the latter. Allow 6 hours, taking into account time for lunch and relaxing on the beach. The park is free. At the entrance, ask the guardaparque for the small card. It is not very detailed, but is enough to follow the path that I describe above, and is very useful!

This was the first park in Chile. The Petrohue River's Waterfalls are breathtaking. You can see the Osorno Volcano Mountain off in the distance which is 2600 meters high. It last erupted on Jan 14, 1835. It is shared by Chile and Argentina.

We visited the Vicente Perez Rosales National Park while on our shore excursion to the park and Puerto Varas from Puerto Montt. The National Park was quite lovely, with everything lush and green and thickly forested. The Emerald Lake cruise was located in the National Park. While not completely spectacular, it was pleasant and very nice to see and visit.
