We hiked the easy Sendero de Los Craters in Villerrica National Park. 8 km totally round trip. About 208 metres in elevation. Takes you across lava rock, through lush forest, to a viewpoint looking at the surrounding mountains and the volcano. You can go further onto the lava rock with more panoramic views before turning around.

I did this climb on 15/02/17 with Sur Explora, Pucon. I am 57 and consider myself reasonably fit as I run 5k a couple of times a week and take regular walks, however, I am not a Trekker/hiker. I agonised over whether to attempt this climb and decided " to go for it". When I arrived at the shop at... More

The volcano can be seen clearly from the township. Makes for spectacular photos with the contrast of the black sand beach, beach goers and their colourful umbrellas and the volcano in the back ground.

It's a beautiful drive through the park till you can get very close to the volcano. And once there one can only wonder about what's going on underground.

We travelled around the lake on the seven lake loop and soaked in the spectacular views of the volcano. It had rained the day before so we were fortunate to have beautiful clear views the day we were there. There are several easily accessible thermals on the slopes. We did not go up the volcano itself past the thermals as... More

The side of the mountain was swept clean of its trees that tumbled down the slope. Now there are simple grainy black sandy trails to walk through - interesting, but eerie and bleak within view of the smoking crater!

We visited the city of Pucon where this volcano is, not just the volcano itself but all the surroundings of this place were just fantastic. So many things to do.

Anyone making their way to Pucon to climb Villarrica volcano ITS CLOSED and has been since the eruption in March 2015. No agencies in the centre are offering the climb. Surprised there are no other posts about this. We arrived on the 12th October 2015 and very disappointed. Don't take my word but one agency said they are hoping to... More

A beautiful, iconic shape standing proud above the surrounding hills and mountains. We were fortunate enough to watch it erupt at 3am. A stunning spectacle of mother natures beauty.
