Caleta Horcon was a hippy hang out many, many years ago. Now it has lost much of the hippy vibe and what remains is just a little tourist fishing town that is a bit stinky. VERY crowded on a holiday. Not really worth a visit....More

I have a house there since I was born and I can recommend this place for different reasons, the beach is huge and you have a place with rocks where you can do some "adventure" and arrive to a beach full of agate stones. The...More

The "bridge of dreams" is a romantic little outjut of bridge on the rocks where visitors can tie ribbons, and there is an interesting art market just next to it with local crafts. However, other than this, there are only a few real restaurants, and...More

Plenty of life to be found in this village. It is a destination for families and teenagers who dislike the pretensions of Zapallar up the coast and cannot afford them either. Inexpensive fish restaurants line the sandy road next to the small bay, every inch...More

Even though it is not the cleanest place in the country, Horcon is a charming town with the boat beside the sea and many typical characters from Chilean idiosyncrasy. Worth to visit it for an hour and eating an empanada and a beer at Roty...More

The inhabitans of this region come mostly from the changos indians which were fisherman. This Caleta or little fisherman village comes from this tradition, its very nice and you can eat very good and enjoy yourself. Its a very hippie environment

Mi relato en ingles: Unfortunally, my experience in Valparaiso was very bad. My brother is living in Santiago de Chile and we decided to go to Valparaiso by ourselves. We took the Ascensor Artillería at 10:30 a.m. From there we went to the Naval and maritime museum. Our mistake was decided to go by walk to the others turistic places. so we started to walk and then after 15-20 minutes we were robbed violently. 2 men started to run in our direction, the biggest who was also the leader tried to take my bag and snatch my bag. I was stronger than him. So He threw me on the floor, I was immobilized with a foot and he pulled out a switchblade knife. I saw the knife close to my belly and I was ready to receive the knife. I closed my eyes and I got peed on. My brother was with the other guy who was short and thin and asked for the money/la Plata to a meter away. My brother gave the wallet with 200.000 chilean pesos and all documents and credit card. He was able to hide the I-phone 6 (the price is around 800 Eur). he didn´t tried to help me. My brother told me to stop to tighten the purse/the bag. I did it and the man took my bag which contain the samsung S3, sony zt3 waterproof, a small canon camera (value around 60 Eur) and 110.000 chilean pesos. We were on a Cerro/Hill very close to a square with a checkpoint police (carabinieros). we made the complaint of theft which took a lot of time. The police was very very lazy. Then we went to the police office by car to finish to declair. We lost all the money and we asked to the police some money to return to santiago. They gave the money and we made the transfer the following day. The police told us that Valpairaiso is getting the most dangerous city of Chile. The tourists has to go there with a Tour or if they walk alone, the have to go only in the most touristic places. Sometimes the Lanzas/thieves start to follow the tourist and await the opportunity to rob. It a pity that this beautiful city is so unsafe. The police told us that some people who comes to Valparaiso to give the recognition as a UNESCO heritage of humanity were also robbed. Be careful.
