It's an Elevator!

Didn't realize it was an elevator until after I got out of the elevator, but the walk through the tunnel was pretty neat. It felt like we were in a cave with a nice walkway.

Interesting tunnel takes you through to the ground floor stop of the elevator... complete with spooky lighting and seeping walls. From the top is a wonderful 360 degree view of Valparaiso. If you walk along the skyway and down the steps there is a cement slippery slide and climbing wall that our kids enjoyed (it worked best with a bit... More

There are 15 funiculars in the hilly city of Valparaiso, most from the early 1900s. This is the only one that is fully vertical, meaning a straight up and down elevator. The top has a great view over the city. It is also nice to walk around the streets here to see street art and the surrounding areas look like... More

...because the operator was sick! el conductor está enfermo!...we loved that response given by a bystander. We walked up, not very long, some murals, typical of the city.

this ascenseur is different to all the others in Valparaiso as it is more like a lift but the interest is in the long underground approach tunnel, the nearby tsunami escape route signs to observe and the stunning view over a large area of the whole city. We went at sunset and weren't disappointed!

Cerro Polanco and it's ascensor are definitely worth a visit. This elevator is unique in Valparaiso , as it is the only vertical type in the city. One enters the ascensor via a long tunnel and then into a vertical cabin that takes you to the top, where a fantastic view back to the city can be obtained.

When I arrived in this neighbourhood, I was warned by many locals to be careful of my backpack and camera (some even told me not to walk any further). But who am I to walk away from an adventure for the possibility of having possessions stolen! I continued walking and got the Polanco Ascensor to the top (the man in... More
