We rode this on the way down the hill, cute and charming. Quick and cheap only 100 pesos. The ride is steep and ends in a good location.

You must ride at least one of these whilst in Valparaiso. There are many, some old, some restored. Well worth the few cents to ride.

You'll find the funicular railways all over Valparaiso and hardly any of them travel more than about 100 metres at best, but they will save your calf muscles as they all rise very steeply up the otherwise winding pathways on foot. They all have a...More

The 100 Peso-ride on this ascensor is unfortunately too short, but a cribbling moment during a Valparaiso stay

The funicular was right next to the hotel we were staying at and offered a nice shortcut up the hill while also being a little fun! At the top there was prints for sale!

For 100 pesoes you can take the short ride up or down. It really makes the good restaurants accessible.

It's just a typical tram taking you up and down, it's a short ride. Helpful. It's an old one, but functional and safe.

this lifts are all around the town, You can see why they are good as the hills are very steep. The journey takes a couple of minutes and very cheap

Mi relato en ingles: Unfortunally, my experience in Valparaiso was very bad. My brother is living in Santiago de Chile and we decided to go to Valparaiso by ourselves. We took the Ascensor Artillería at 10:30 a.m. From there we went to the Naval and maritime museum. Our mistake was decided to go by walk to the others turistic places. so we started to walk and then after 15-20 minutes we were robbed violently. 2 men started to run in our direction, the biggest who was also the leader tried to take my bag and snatch my bag. I was stronger than him. So He threw me on the floor, I was immobilized with a foot and he pulled out a switchblade knife. I saw the knife close to my belly and I was ready to receive the knife. I closed my eyes and I got peed on. My brother was with the other guy who was short and thin and asked for the money/la Plata to a meter away. My brother gave the wallet with 200.000 chilean pesos and all documents and credit card. He was able to hide the I-phone 6 (the price is around 800 Eur). he didn´t tried to help me. My brother told me to stop to tighten the purse/the bag. I did it and the man took my bag which contain the samsung S3, sony zt3 waterproof, a small canon camera (value around 60 Eur) and 110.000 chilean pesos. We were on a Cerro/Hill very close to a square with a checkpoint police (carabinieros). we made the complaint of theft which took a lot of time. The police was very very lazy. Then we went to the police office by car to finish to declair. We lost all the money and we asked to the police some money to return to santiago. They gave the money and we made the transfer the following day. The police told us that Valpairaiso is getting the most dangerous city of Chile. The tourists has to go there with a Tour or if they walk alone, the have to go only in the most touristic places. Sometimes the Lanzas/thieves start to follow the tourist and await the opportunity to rob. It a pity that this beautiful city is so unsafe. The police told us that some people who comes to Valparaiso to give the recognition as a UNESCO heritage of humanity were also robbed. Be careful.

Siempre respondo lo mismo a todos mis clientes que vienen del extranjero cuando me preguntan si Chile es o no un lugar seguro para visitar. Mi respuesta es: ¡SI! El problema radica en que los visitantes de fuera de Chile... More
