Churches, museums, restaurants and a great statue all mark Quito's most important square. Always seems to be crowded. The Cathedral dominated and should be your first stop.

The Plaza was just what it says a plaza. It had a couple of statues in it and was a fairly large area lots of benches to sit on as the air was hot and drying. It was a good place just to relax.

Due to me the best way how to enjoy this place is to sit in caffee nearby and drink something and look at the people passing around.

Perfect timing to watch a workers parade and protest. The plaza was filled and people marched around the square with protesters and drummers on a stage. Police in flack jackets were visible to keep the peace. Peaceful protest on this beautiful sunny day.

This place cannot be more authentic. This is a city center in a LA country at 2800 mts over the sea level. All closed together, even the president house, with barely no security

A wonderful square in the centre of the old town, bursting with activity, people everywhere, beautiful flowers, peddlers selling local souvenirs

The Plaza Grande is a very lively square with well cared for buildings on three sides and a lovely park in the middle. Don't miss the changing of the guard at 11.00. We even saw the president on the balcony the day we visited.

If you're in Quito, you have to visit the Plaza de la Independencia. This is the hustle and bustle of Quito's Centro Historico and is filled with life. It is wonderful for people watching and atmosphere.

This is where everyone is at some point during the day. All of old town runs all around this plaza. With the statue saluting the heroes of the independence to the palace that sits on the park a true center of a town.

In order to make you and your family safe, as in other Latin American countries make sure you take a hotel taxi or one that is called by your hotel. After you arrive in the old town, don't bring all your fancy jewelry, put... More
