Very interesting history and entertainment.

Great presentation of Equador's history including live performances. This is an excellent place to get an overall view of where the county's been historically.

Closed as of August 2016. We were told by a local street vendor outside of the Casa de la Cultural complex that it was not scheduled to reopen until October.

I got off the bus at the Casa de la Culture station. The Museo Nacional seemed to be closed, surrounded by a collection of discarded rubbish, bums and down-and-outs. The ticket office was closed and no sign of activity. So I went in the neighbouring Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana and asked the security guard and what looked to be... More

We visited the museum 12 February and it looks like the museum is still going through renovation. It is free and you can walk around and there are several exhibits on display including a large section on how they restore old paintings (although nothing is translated from Spanish, so we could not understand most of the wording describing the process).... So this museum was mostly empty when I was there, and had weird hours. However, the collection of Andean and Incan artifacts was incredible, and it made the trip all worth while. They had breathtakingly intricate and beautiful sculptures and idols that were hundreds and even thousands of years old. I was there in December 2014.

As of November 2015 (and as of January 8, 2016, when we stopped to look a second time), the museum is currently CLOSED. Seems they're doing a year-long renovation and have moved all the exhibits to government storage facilities. No need to add this one to your list until about November 2016.

The Museum is not far from the centre and is Free, but although the building is fairly substantial there are not many exhibits. The history is told by models and replicas with a few cased original. Ideal if your out of things to do or it is raining.

This museum is very informative and educational. The place is not that big so you will not spend a lot of time here, just enough to have a "taste and glimpse" of Ecuador. Highly recommended.

I would highly recommend visiting this museum. It has amazing exhibits on the history of all the people that have inhabited Ecuador with amazing artifacts.
