Go early to beat the lines. Visit the side altars especially one with beautiful statuary. Intricate carved wooden ceiling. Golf leaf on altar. Construction started in 1531 with many changes over the years. Is a mixture of neo-gothic and Baroque. Some of the paintings in...More

Its pretty impressive to see this church built in 1535 and see the beauty and the skill it took to build it with its round chapels. Its like most churches that one sees...amazing way back then what they did. This is another one of those...More

The Cathedral of Quito is a striking white-painted monumental church with a single high bell tower offset to the right of the main entrance. Its location is amazing fronting onto Plaza Grande and is a must visit.

The fact that this church has been standing for 450 years is amazing. The outside is modest, but the sanctuary is beautiful. The floors are hardwood and a bit squeaky. The inside structure is beautifully preserved.

Like so many churches all over the world, you stand inside and are in awe over the construction and interior. Pretty impressive to see how they built such a large and beautiful building before the time of mechanization.
