Don't go alone as the approach is in a sketchy neighborhood. We took a car and had no issues. Best view is slightly downhill on the face side looking back up.

This is a really fun place to stroll around and gaze out at the vast city of 2.6 million below you. Take the double-decker bus tour that stops here. Eat at "Pim's" restaurant for great food and a breath-taking view of the sprawling city and mountains.

We arrived in Quito late at night and caught sight of the Virgin while we breakfasted the next morning. She was viewable from everywhere we visited in the city. Not able to climb the monument the day we visited. Great views of the city from this site. The usual vendors hawking their wares.

The first morning, I saw the Virgin in the distance from my hotel room. The sunshine reflecting off her face was wonderful. Later visiting the Virgin was even more interesting. I think this is a must see in Quito.

The Quito city bus tour stops here for half an hour (or longer is you wish to wait for next bus..Huge metal statute on top of very high hill. Souvenir vendors, food stalls, lots of people milling around.

It's a bit of a trek to get to from downtown but it's well worth jt for the mesmerising views of Quito and the surrounding mountains. It's a nice monument, striking to look at with a small plaza or park around it where you can have a drink or an ice cream. Good photo opportunity and all in all a... More

I really enjoyed going up to see La Virgin del Panecillo. It's really a beautiful statue and different than how you typically see the Virgin Mary. I thought it was very interesting. The views of the city were great! I believe that this is something within Quito that you should take the time to see.

This statue is unusual, because it's made of aluminum plates. Its location above Quito offers the visitor wonderful panoramic views of the city.

Amazing all aluminum sculpture that stands on top of El Panecillo hill in Quito. It's a copy of a much smaller statue in San Francisco church. It has both a traditional and modern feel at the same time. Worth a look.

My husband and I are walkers and enjoy spending days walking around new cities and taking in the sites. We talked to our hotel staff about walking up to a Virgin del Panecillo verses taking a tour or bus. The staff was very clear about not going up there on our own. I have read many of the reviews from... More
