Get there by Transport and Tours

Quirutoa Transfers and Tourism took us to see this Basilica. The driver was Edison Garcia and he pointed out many things for us to notice. The stained glass windows in this basilica are so beautiful and well maintained, considering how old they are! This is a "must see" place to see in Quito.

A must see
Mar. 2021
A beautiful edifice see n from almost every part of Quito. First view the inside then go into the courtyard and enter again (separate fee) to take the elevator to the next levels. See the beautiful windows up close as well as the shop and restaurant. If you are heartier than me go across the roof and climb up into the tower. Fear of heights and tiny spiral staircase made me say no. Many others do it and say the view is awesome. Check out all the gargoyles when back on the ground. They represent all the provinces

The gargoyles

Largest Basílica in the Americas
But it’s those Ecuadorian gargoyles on native jungle and Galapagos animals that knocked me out
I really love colonial Quito!!!
Too bad it’s pandemic... people are suffering everywhere so much

This cathedral is a flagship icon of Quito. Explore this stunning piece of art for several hours including all the way up in all towers and a catwalk across the ceiling to get a birds eye view of Quito. $2 entrance for all towers and another $2 for the sanctuary accesss.

Large 16th Century cathedral

The Basilica is a great example of European cathedrals. It is huge and can be seen from much of the Historic Center. Unfortunately when we were there, access to the towers was prohibited.

STUNNING!!!!

We really were impressed with this beautiful replica of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris! The outside is huge and majestic, and the inside grandiose and memorable. We even got the chance to climb atop the roof, and got spectacular views of the spires and the old town below!

Spectacular Cathedral
Dec. 2020
This cathedral is not to be missed. Not only is it stunning, the ability to go up to the towers is rare. I took the staircase up and it was qutie exhausting as i had just arrived in the city and i was still adjusting to the altitude, but it was SO worth it for the views below!

View Worth the Climb
Dec. 2020
Visited this place while exploring Quito on my own. I had wanted to climb to the top, but ended up having to ask where the stairs were. Despite what others say, I did not find the climb too strenuous. It was about 10 stories (according to Apple). The first seven stories are on a regular staircase. The last three were on a circular staircase that might not be too good for people who are claustrophobic or acrophobic.
The view was excellent. Near the top, there is a cafe with a tour company, a restaurant (that was closed), and a souvenir store.

Incredible Neogothic Church
Nov. 2020
The views from the outside are amazing. We got there in the afternoon, and the light coming through the colorful glass left us speechless, it is such a peaceful place, full of history and unique antiques and ornaments. We highly recommend visiting while in Quito, do visit it with a guided tour so that you can get to learn about its history and unique architecture.

Huge basilica

This is worth a look! Very large with beautiful windows and gargoyles that are Ecuadorian animals. One of South America's great churches.
