This a must for anyone that is visiting Ecuador. I was lucky to go and I don't regret it. You can watch most of its original structure and pass through a richly furnished museum, while an experienced tour guide tells you all you need to know about the history of the Republic. Be sure to schedule the visit beforehand because it's the only way to visit the place.

This is the National Palace for the Ecuadorean government and it is evident in its grandeur. It can be found in the Independence Plaza in which there is much else to do in the area.

Important structure on Plaza Grande, as it is the seat of the president of Ecuador. Unlike other presidential palaces, this building from 1920 is rather modest in style, with a colonnade and just two storeys with windows and balconies. Inside, perhaps less interesting, rather old fashioned rooms in a formal style. The mural by Guayasamin 'descent of the Amazon' is worth to have a closer look at. It depicts the journey of the first European to navigate the whole length of the Amazon. The fact Francisco de Orellana was not just a brave discoverer, but also a conquistador is given less attention.

located inside the main square, plaza de armas; this old building is opened to the foregneirs only in the last few years thanks to the president correo. there are several visit everyday, free entry, just you have to bring your passport in order to be cleared to enter. there guide is very clear and will make you love the building and the ecuadorian history. i have read that sometimes, when he's in the palace, the president comes to welcome the tourists as well. highly recommened. ps every monday don't miss the ceremony of the change of the guard

Due to new security measures, you must call at least 48 working hours before they can issues you tickets. You are given the local phone number to call to start this process at the corner of Garcia Moreno and Espejo. You must speak Spanish and have your ID ready when calling. Unfortunately, I was unable to get tickets as we called on Friday morning, thus 48 hours weren't done until Tuesday. The phone number for the process is (02) 3827118 (you're welcome)!

This is a must-see monument in Quito. Apparently the president no longer lives there, although this does not take away from seeing the awards, memories and events that have taken place here.
The only item you need to remember to bring is your passport, as the guard will keep it whilst you walk round the palace and return it on your way out. Your bags will also be scanned on the way in as a measure of security.
Before entering you need to get a free ticket from the booth which will give you your stated time to look around.
We were given a guide walking round and the whole place is absolutely beautiful, I don't think I've ever seen so many roses in one place in my life!
The chandeliers, the paintings, the tiles, all of the little touches, make this monument really special! I feel honoured to have been able to walk round it!
Highly recommend a visit!

we went in the morning to book a time for a visit in the afternoon. First of all they want to see you passport.
We arrived on the slot time, the ticket was checked, we have to stand in a row like kindergarten kids and the public officer person who was not connected with his gast told us that we ,"foreigners" needed to give our passports to an admin person. We refused to do, so we left the building and did not see the palacio.

We waited for only 10 minutes in line before being led into the palace to start the tour. Fortunately, we went on a Wednesday afternoon to avoid the long weekend lines. We had to surrender our passports during the tour, and backpacks must be stored at the entrance. We had a Spanish-speaking tour guide, who led us through the state rooms and explained the artifacts and gifts from other world leaders. The palace was very interesting and had some really breathtaking state rooms. It was definitely worth a visit, and is free. I'm not sure if they offer English-speaking guides however.

We wondered around the old historical town, and really enjoyed the architectural design all around, especially the Palacio, with the nice Roman Columns!

Gibt es diese Führung auf Deutsch? Wann soll man vor Ort sein? Was darf ich in Quito nicht verpassen? Ist die Stadt sehr gefährlich? LG Natascha
