I went to buy a hat and the ones I tried on were to large for my head. The women made several adjustments and even hand sewed my hat to get the perfect fit! I will buy more things from them in the future. Thanks Homero Ortega!

I had purchased a Homero Ortega panama hat back in 2016. I really appreciated the style and craftsmanship, and it had finally worn out, so I decided I would buy a new one last month. Unfortunately, the old hat does not name the style of the hat inside the brim. When I went to the website, I found that the descriptions of the Gentlemen's Classics hats on the Eshop page all said they were white. All of the hats are clearly not white and there are no models to be able to make a comparable prediction on size/style either. I believed I had picked the same style that I had before, based on the picture. When the hat arrived it was not the same style or color. Since they claim to have a 100% customer satisfaction guarantee, I politely emailed customer service and asked to exchange the hat for the hat I was actually interested in. Customer service replied to say that their return policy would not accept the return from an international customer. I wasn't even asked about covering the shipping costs (which I was willing to do.) In my view, this is not a 100% customer satisfaction guarantee. Buyer beware. You may not be able to tell what you're ordering because of the lack of information/context on the website and you will not have your return accepted unless you're in Ecuador. This is an unfortunate experience because their hats are really a great product, but the poor customer service outweighs the product quality in my opinion.

Felt more like a factory and a place where tourist buses stop. A very wide selection of hats with various shapes and colours but mainly one size. Seem more interested in selling rather than explaining. That’s the impression we got. Prices are very good. Located outside the city, near bus station so you need a taxi to get there. Mini museum is ok.

This is a really great family owned business. Upon our arrival we were asked right away if we wanted a tour. Senor Ortega's granddaughter got an employee who gave us the complete tour of the facility. She thoroughly explained how a hat is created by hand. It was amazing to see how the artisans made the hats.

The showroom is not that big, but if you do not find the style or design that you want do not be afraid to ask (they will get it from the stockroom). If you want a panama hat, buy it here. I will attest that you might not find this level of quality and craftmanship for less (I checked everywhere we went in Ecuador). The employee at the showroom and Senor Ortega were really helpful in narrowing down my selection (I felt like a kid in a candy store). And even with their help, I ended up with three hats.

A visit here is a must, in my opinion, whilst in Cuenca. See all the old machinery and traditions of the montecristo hat making process. Also, there is a cafe upstairs with great views across the new part of Cuenca and the river.

You get a very good idea of how the hats are made, the story, even a drink. Then you get to try on as many beautiful hats (for all budgets) and if you wish you can purchase them . It's hard not to fall in love with some of them

This was a worthwhile tour to see how an old industry produces this unique product. The tour, naturally, ends in the shop where the hats are available, but there is no pressure to buy (but we did anyway!)

This is the most well known and most pretigious brand for the tradicional summer hats made of PAJA TOQUILLA an smal palm three tipical of coastal middle-america .
They have nice models and colors but not in all sizes and not all ready to buy and the special made-of-order works out quite expensive to be blown away ...

I bought a fino panama hat here - they didn't have natural (vs white) hat on display so went back to the production area and finished one for me. They sewed on the band I prefered and gave me a good price. I got caught in the rain a couple of days later and the hat lost a little form. I went back and they cheerfully reformed the hat and replaced the band. Excellent service.

We came to the museum as part of our open top red bus tour of Cuenca.
The museum has very informative panels in English as well as Spanish that explain both the hat making process as well as the history. You see the hats being finished right before your eyes and there are great photo opportunities.
The showroom is just mouth watering! The most beautiful hats at a wide variety of prices. A visit is free and really worth the time. It is right next to the terminal terrestre main bus terminal.
